We encourage you to scroll down and read through our emergency weather information. Mother Nature decided to bring on the winter weather a little early this year, causing our first two-hour delay of the season. Receiving information about winter weather days is imperative for our families and staff, so we have some tips for making sure you receive our messages.
FALL PLAY TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE!
You can now purchase your fall play tickets online! Click on the link below to purchase your tickets online with a debit or credit card. Patrons can choose to have their tickets emailed to them or have them available for pickup at the ticket office. Questions? Contact us at ptscommunications@portage.k12.in.us.
RED FOR ED ACTION DAY
The Portage Boys & Girls Club will be open on Nov. 19 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for their Kidstop program. Families who would like to send their children to the Boys & Girls Club that day must register ahead of time by calling 762-4613.

SUPPORT THE FEGELY CHEER TEAM
In a return to action, the Fegely Cheer Team will be represented by eighth grade students Phlorizell Coffey, Jailyn Gardner (Captain), Mattson Owens, and Jae’la Robinson (Co-Captain). Let's flood the gym with Fegely Spirit and support our basketball and cheer teams as they start their 2019-2020 Season. Come cheer them on at their November games on the 16th, 18th, 20th, 21st, and 26th!
During the November 20th and 21st games, if you bring in a can good to donate to the Portage Pantry, you will receive a spirit item of the Coach's choice free of charge!
The team will also be raffling off a Thanksgiving basket featuring several goodies. Come to the game to purchase a ticket for $5.00 and a chance to win this awesome basket. Proceeds benefit the Fegely Cheer Team to help them meet their fundraising goals.
WILLOWCREEK HOSTING ANNUAL COAT DRIVE
The Willowcreek Coat Drive Committee is conducting the Annual Willowcreek Coat Drive from
now until November 27. Our sixth grade students are collecting donated coats so that others from the Portage Community can be warm during the winter season. Please bring any gently used coats to the bins located on either end of Jungle Hall OR in the entryway at Willowcreek Middle School.EMERGENCY WEATHER PREPAREDNESS
The SchoolMessenger app will send push notifications to your phone in the event of a weather emergency. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play store and log in using the email addresses you provided us at registration. Make sure to agree to accept push notifications from SchoolMessenger on your phone.

PHS visual communications class illustrates children's stories
Kyle Kids Can...count!
Our Kyle Elementary second grade students are learning practicing math with pumpkins! The students took measurements of the pumpkin and counted all of the seeds, which they then put into groups of tens and hundreds.
Chemistry students create 3-D models
Our chemistry students at Portage High School made 3-D models of common isotopes of elements by counting the number of protons, neurons, and electrons! They used different colored marbles to represent the particles, then properly named the isotopes and took pictures, which were submitted on Schoology. Great job to our chemistry students and teachers on this fun, hands-on assignment!
"She Can Tech" visits Fegely Middle School
Portage High School's She Can Tech group visited with Fegely Middle School students last week! The girls explored electrical engineering with makeup makeys. They learned binary coding and practiced with bracelets. Following a discussion on video game design and, the students played a video game programmed by a former Fegely student and current She Can Tech member. Thank you to our She Can Tech girls for inspiring our students!
Myers second grade visits Bellaboos
PHS Child Development class creates brochures in PBL project
The child development class at Portage High School completed a project-based learning assignment last quarter to help our School Advisers! After completing their unit on teen pregnancy and studying the health effects and implications, the students worked with the School Advisers to create brochures to give to students. The brochures feature a wealth of information on the topic and provide contact information for several resources in Porter County.
Thank you for supporting Fegely at McTeachers Night!
Fegely Middle School teachers, staff, and administrators took over McDonald's on Central Avenue last Tuesday for a McTeachers Night Fundraiser! They had fun working with former students and serving their students, parents, and community members. THANK YOU to all that came out to support Fegely, to the teachers and staff who volunteered their time and talents, and to the Central McDonald’s team for making them feel welcome and having some fun while supporting Fegely!
PHS Art Department celebrates Dia de los Muertos
The PHS Art Department created their annual ofrenda to celebrate Dia de los Muertos! This year, the theme is the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote. Students have been working hard to create the various pieces of artwork included in the traditional ofrenda. Great job to our art students!
Central student participates in Red Ribbon Contest
Congratulations to Central Elementary student, Christopher, on submitting this awesome poster to the Red Ribbon Contest! He attended the reception with his art teacher, Miss Verduzco, on November 2. His poster spreads the message "Don't huff, don't puff, stay away from that stuff." Great job, Christopher!
Sixth graders participate in digital Escape Room
Mrs. Malaski’s 6th grade honors English class at Fegely Middle School used the online digital Escape Room for a fun Friday problem solving activity. Teachers had breakout professional development sessions on Escape Rooms on our teacher e-Learning day last Tuesday. There are both kits and online escape rooms that are super fun and challenging for all of our students. The students were engaged and actively trying to solve these complex puzzles. This is a fun and engaging way for students to show what they know!

PTS support staff participates in professional development
Our Portage support staff participated in professional development on our recent E-Learning Day! Our secretaries, health aids, classroom assistants, and instructional technology specialists gained valuable knowledge and strategies to help them best support our students. They attended sessions on technology, verbal de-escalation, encouraging team building, and school safety. Thank you to everyone who attended!
