Students Visit Hans Herr House!
Have awesome time learning about life in the 1700's
Lots of fun despite the rain...
Despite the windy, rainy weather, Hans Herr's third graders had an awesome time visiting the Hans Herr House, which is the oldest home in Lancaster County. Students learned about life in the 1700's, watching blacksmiths at work, learning about cooking, farming, and the lives of the Native Americans who were living here when the Herr family came to this part of Pennsylvania.
Long House
The new Long House helps show what life was like for the Native Americans who lived in the area. Each long house was home to 8 to 10 families who lived and worked together.
What's Cooking?
In the House, we learned about cooking, sleeping, and the other activities of the family. We got to sample some fresh apple cake!
Hot, hot, hot!
It was neat to watch how blacksmiths made things out of metal. Everything from nails to spoons to farm equipment was made by blacksmiths back then!
