The Spring Road Scoop
September 8th, 2023
Thank YOU for a GREAT Start!
Please continue to follow the pick-up and drop-off procedures for our parking lot. When students are able to exit the vehicle quickly, it keeps our traffic flowing smoothly. If your child(ren) need/needs assistance or extra time to leave a vehicle, please park and walk your child(ren) to the front door. Thanks again for all of your help and support.
Little Bits of Learning!
School Safety
Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, the Neenah Joint School District will be updating its safety and security plan with the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The benefits of this plan include standardizing the vocabulary to help everyone better understand the response and status of the event. The District will communicate to our families when there is a safety concern at your child's school. We want you to be familiar with this terminology when you receive communication.
There are five main terms that all students and families should become familiar with. These are the terms that will be used in response to any incident. They are the terms that will be used in communication with students, staff and families before, during and after the incident.
Hold - means students and staff will remain in their classrooms and hallways will be kept clear. Classes will proceed as normal.
Secure - means there is an external threat in the neighborhood or outside the school. Students and staff will be indoors and locked inside classrooms. No visitors will be allowed to enter and students will not be allowed to leave the building. Classes may proceed as normal.
Lockdown - means there is an internal threat in the school. Students and staff will do what it takes to keep themselves safe whether it is hiding, defending themselves or running from the building.
Evacuate - means students and staff will leave the building and move to an external location for safety. Schools have identified evacuation locations specific to each school.
Shelter - means students and staff will move to an identified area within the school to remain safe, usually due to a hazard or weather incident.
The SRP was developed through a program called “I Love You Guys.” While we hope we never have to use this protocol, please familiarize yourself with the vocabulary as these are the terms that will be used in an emergency. More information about the SRP is available at this link or at iloveyouguys.org.
Any time any of these 5 actions are needed, you will be notified. We will always notify you ahead of time for a LOCKDOWN drill. We are planning on having our first LOCKDOWN drill on Tuesday, Sept. 19th at 2:30 pm. Please see the links below for more detailed information about this upcoming drill.
Staff Communication
During school hours, staff are not able to check their emails while they are teaching. If you need to get a message to your child(ren) during school hours, please call the office (920) 751-6975 x 20100. Office Staff will deliver the message to your child(ren).
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Walk at School Wednesdays!
In celebration of National Walk to School Day in October, Mrs. Martine and I are excited to announce Walk at School Wednesdays for all Spring Road School students, parents, and staff. Every Wednesday beginning on September 20, 2023, until October 4, 2023, participating Spring Road School Staff will meet students and parents, if interested, on our paved walking path located on the school grounds.
Walking begins at 7:40 a.m. and ends promptly at 8:00 a.m. with the start of our school day.
Please note the following:
Walk at School Wednesday will be canceled if it is raining. If it is raining by/or at 7:00 a.m., we will cancel the walk.
Walk at School Wednesdays is geared toward walkers and their families. There will not be any running on the track for these events.
The goal of these events is to raise awareness and support for the health, community, and environmental benefits of regularly walking or biking to school.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Martine at jmartine@neenah.k12.wi.us, or Mrs. Luft at dluft@neenah.k12.wi.us, or Mrs. Wied by calling the school office at 920- 751-6975.
Your child’s participation makes this event a success. We hope to see many students and parents walking with us on Wednesdays. Walk at School Wednesdays will resume in the spring.

A Message from our School Nurses- Mrs. Gutschow and Mrs. Nechodom
- If your child requires prescription medication to be given at s; school, please complete a medication request form and have your health care provider sign it- forms are available at his/her school office and the district website. School staff cannot administer medication without your consent, the provider's signature, and the original labeled medication bottles.
- Over-the-Counter Medications (OTC)- Can be given at school with just a parent's signature unless it is being taken more than 10 days in a row, then a physician's signature will be required. Cough drops, Tylenol, ibuprofen, and allergy medication are all considered OTC medications. These must be in the original container and will be left in the office. Students are not allowed to carry medication on them or in their backpacks. The medication also must match the directions on the package for that student (e.g.: we cannot give adult Tylenol to a student, if the student requires a change to directions a physician's signature will be required.
- If your child has a serious allergy, asthma, diabetes, or a seizure disorder please complete the corresponding medical form. The forms are available online and in the school health office.
- Please report any changes in your child's health to school as soon as possible. Your school nurse will contact you regarding school interventions. If your child has a health plan in place, please contact the school nurse with any updates.
