Clarification Message from Mr. Hamilton | Dispensing Medications
Parents,
We have had some inquiries regarding the school being able to dispense Tylenol to students with parent permission. This is coming from an option in our new student system that parents could check to give the school permission to dispense Tylenol. The new student system should not have given parents this option. The Georgia Department of Education Policy and Procedures prohibits the distribution of medication to students that is not approved and provided by parents. We apologize for any confusion that this has caused.
Information from GCPS | Approaching Weather
At this time, we do not know the extent of the impact Hurricane Irma may have on Gwinnett County Public Schools. School system leaders are making plans and will modify these plans as we get better and more timely information. Any changes to school schedules next week will be communicated using GCPS' normal communication channels (SchoolMessenger, websites, social media, and local news media) once we have more information and those decisions are made.
Any schedule changes for extracurricular activities next week will be communicated by the district and shared by coaches and sponsors as decisions are made.
How are decisions made to cancel school?
The superintendent makes the decision about school closings based on a cross-divisional and cross-agency effort, with information from public safety officials, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Gwinnett County officials, and the state Department of Transportation. School district officials will be meeting with these groups throughout the weekend and next week to ensure we have the best information possible.

Celebrate our BEAUTIFUL DIVERSITY
Many bullying incidents stem from discomfort about differences; whether they are physical, religious, political, socio-economic, racial, or any other description. On this day, we will be focusing on the fact that because we are all different, we are able to share unique backgrounds, talents, and abilities making our community a better place.
Wednesday, September 13th
ABOVE THE LINE
During advisement on this day, every student will be engaging in a lesson that highlights and encourages ways to respond to negativity. Students are much more likely to stand up for themselves or others when they have talked about or even practiced how to do so.
Thursday, September 14th
UPSTANDERS UNITE
Incidences of bullying will continue in schools, unless students recognize the power they have to put a stop to it. Adults in and outside of the building can implement and enforce anti-bullying programs, but it truly is when students decide they won’t tolerate their peers treating others badly that rates of bullying decrease. Students are encouraged to dress as twins or wear matching outfits today, symbolizing their commitment to stand up for one another!
