Monthly Family News Letter #1
Our School Year Begins!
We've made it through our first few weeks of school! Students are settling in their classrooms, getting to know their teaches, their classmates. Students are excited with our new start and are feeling good about the year ahead.
Below are just a few items for your information. We look forward to an exciting year and want everyone of our students to have an amazing and wonderful learning experience at YVHS for the 22-23 School Year.
Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up
Please drop-off and pick-up your students in the Green Areas. All Yellow zones are for school buses only. No Cars or other vehicles allowed before or after school.
Tardies - High Numbers of Tardies impacting learning
- 5 tardies will be detention after school for 30 minutes
- 10 tardies will be 60 minutes detention after school.
- 15 tardies will be Saturday School
- 20 tardies will result in a behavior contract, and a 60 day school activities suspension and 30 minutes of Campus Beautification assignment after school.
- 25 tardies will result in a parent conference conference with potential suspension.
We ask that families ensure their students arrive at school on time. We hear that many students claim there is traffic as the main cause for lateness in the morning. We understand this issue, however when students are late to school, it impacts their learning and being able to be successful in school.

We have over 250 juniors and seniors in IB classes this year. Over 60 of these students are taking three or more IB classes! We’re so proud of their courage and willingness to push themselves and become amazing IB Scholars.
We had our first potluck-luncheon on Thursday, September 1st for the IB Scholars. A big thank you to the YVHS kitchen that donated enough cheese pizza, spicy chicken sandwiches, and hamburgers. This will be a monthly tradition so students should keep an eye out for email invitations!

What is Pass2Class?
What is Pass2Class?
Pass2Class offers free bus passes to Contra Costa students at the beginning of the school year to encourage the use of bus transportation to and from school. Pass2Class reduces traffic congestion and air pollution by reducing the number of cars being driven to school. Up to two months of rides are being offered for the 2021/2022 school year to help students as they return to in-person learning.
Passes are available while supplies last.
