Week 4, T2 2022
27/5/22 - He Pānui Wiki Wha, Whānga Tuarua
Tēnā koutou (Greetings Everyone)
Some sad news to start with - Lolly the goat passed away overnight. She was a wee bit off on Thursday so we had the vet come out and check her yesterday afternoon. He thought she might have a bit of a virus so gave her some antibiotics with some more to be administered today. Other than that she was looking pretty alert and in good shape. Sadly this was not to be. The vet did take some bloods as a precaution which might help inform why she died (something they are eating perhaps).
Thanks to everyone for being so understanding this week with messages and emails while Kirstan has been away. We are expecting Kirstan back on Tuesday. Thanks to those Year 7&8 students who have helped plug the gaps while I have had meetings.
We enjoyed a visit from two MPS (Masterton Primary School) classes on Wednesday. MPS have recently renamed their syndicates and one of them is called Maungaraki. Ra Smith came to speak to the group about the Maungaraki Ranges. A big thank you to Lucy Orsborn and Tom Nicol who answered questions that the visitors had for us. We all enjoyed making some new friends and look forward to seeing MPS again in the future.
Thanks so much to everyone who came along to the working bee last Sunday (and to those who came both before and after to carry on with various jobs). We got a huge amount done and are well placed for maintenance over the winter period. We will be having another working bee in the Spring so if you weren't able to make the last one, it would be awesome to see you at the next.
It was fantastic to have Keepa Smith here on Monday leading his first Kapa Haka session for the year. Kapa Haka will be every Monday afternoon from now on. We are looking forward to hosting the Carterton Cluster Cross Country this coming Wednesday (1st June). The postponement date is Friday the 3rd of June. We will be joined by South End, Dalefield & St Mary's Schools. Grantly Booth has kindly agreed to let us use his paddock for parking across the road if we need it. If there are any parents/caregivers free to help oversee the parking at the start of cross country, please let either Graham or Belinda know. Please see the link below to organisation and timings for the day. This information also went out via the app.
Values Focus This Week
We appreciated seeing so many parents/caregivers here at school on Wednesday evening for our Transition meetings. We hope that both the Ruamahanga and Ōnoke presentations provided a good overview of what you and your children can expect when they move through to the next syndicate. A copy of the presentations are being shared on Seesaw - please ask either Graham or Chelsea if you would like a PDF copy emailed through.
Nga manaakitanga,
Belinda
FoGS (Friends of Gladstone School) are busy planning for their next fundraising event - catering a school reunion function. On this occasion the best way we can help FoGS is to either offer to help with food preparation or to donate a small amount of money (if you are able) to the FoGS account for the purchase of ingredients - money donations please by Monday 30th of May. If you are able to help with food preparation please email: rachel@gladstone1.school.nz.

Buses
We have a new proposal from GoBus that was sent out to families who live on the Te Whiti run. Please respond to this survey ASAP so that we can go back to GoBus and get the run organised if there is enough community support for it. A copy of the survey can be found by following the link below.
COVID-19 Case Number Update
We have 1 staff case and 1 current student case of COVID in our school that we know of. Please continue to test regularly if someone in your household is presenting with symptoms. We still have a tummy bug doing the rounds - students need to stay home for 48hours after the last symptom has presented itself.

Poto College House
I would like to introduce myself as the new Manager at Poto College House, the boarding hostel for Wairarapa College.
We are the only co-educational boarding facility in the Wairarapa and we are taking enrolments for 2023 now. We offer affordable boarding to our Wairarapa community and beyond and we support sporting, cultural and academic excellence.
The College and Poto House are holding an open night on Wednesday 8 June from 6pm – 8.30 pm and we would love to see your year 8’s and their parents here and we ask that, if possible you advertise this in your school newsletters.
If your students are unable to attend on the 8th but are keen to know more about Poto College House please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would be very willing to come and visit your school to chat with your young people, or organise a private tour of the hostel facilities with them and their parents.
