Welcome To NLS! Today we will be talking about the Harlem Renaissance!
The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion. People during this time really connected with their artistic sides and such. Another thing going on during this time was people finally accepting cultural differences and other things. Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Claude McKay were all brilliant people who helped in this time and of course many more!
Great People of The Harlem Renaissance
James Weldon Johnson
James was born on June 17th, 1871. He had many careers some of them being, author, educator, and lawyer. He is best remembered by his leadership in the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People.
W.E.B Du Bois
Du Bois was born February 23,1868. He was a sociologist and a civil rights activist. He was the first African american to go to Harvard and get a doctorate. He inspired many African Americans to follow there dreams.
Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston was born in Notasulga Alabama on January 7th ,1891. She was known as a famous novelist and anthropologist. She added to the Harlem Renaissance by being a leading figure in some of their darkest times.
