PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Last week a notice went home regarding the flu. Prior to the increase in reported cases at Abrams we were taking precautions to help decrease the spread of germs. We have been doing extra cleaning as well as asking kids to use hand sanitizer as well. Please help us with this process by keeping kids home if they have symptoms. Kids should be fever free for 24 hours before coming back to school. They may seem fine but the extra day of rest helps their immune systems get back to full strength and the possible spreading of any other germs. If you have any questions about this, you can call our office or you can call to speak to our school nurse, Mrs. Donart. We appreciate everyone's help with this.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns you have regarding your child.
Mrs. Michalski
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ABRAMS?
Notes from the Office
Calling all 4k Students! Pre-registration letters have been sent out to all the families on our census list who have children eligible to attend 4K next fall. Hopefully, our census list is up to date and accurate, but if you know of someone new to the area with a four year old child, please have them call the office at 826-5819.
Open Enrollment: This year’s Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 5th and April 30th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/oe If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office.
If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.
All Arts Day: On Thursday, April 19th, 2018 we will once again be presenting the “traditional” All Arts Day program where parent and community volunteers share their artistic talents with our students. It is a chance for students to see that art is all around them in a variety of forms. But to make it work, we need your help. Could you teach a small group of students how to take a good photograph? Scrapbook? Tie a fishing lure? Decorate a cake? Dance a polka? Make play-dough? The possibilities are endless, but we need about 25 volunteers to make the day work. Interested in being a presenter? Please contact the office (826-5819) for more information or to volunteer. Thanks.

Silly Snowmen
If we can’t make snowmen outside, then we are going to do it in the third grade classrooms. One of our centers this week is to follow directions and create a snowman. The students used their name for the bottom of the snowman. Then they used their creativity and made the rest of the snowman. Hopefully we will get some real snow soon.

Library News
Students in the 4th grade in Mr. Schroeder's class had the opportunity to use an educational video posting website to learn about what life is like in Alaska as part of their social studies curriculum. They watched videos on what students like to eat in Alaska, and they then made their own video replies about what we eat here in Wisconsin after some preparation in the classroom. Check out a few of the final products by going to www.flipgrid.com, and enter e2462d as the code to let you view the responses. Also, check back during the year with students to see other videos that will be posted by students in Mrs. Ingram's class that will teach people about the activities that people do for fun in Wisconsin!
What's Happening With the CPTO....
Scrip Cards for Sale at Abrams Elementary! Scrip cards are gift cards you can use to pay at checkout for groceries, gas, retail stores and restaurants without the risk of fraud. You can use the scrip cards to shop in-store or online with participating retailers. You purchase gift cards at face value and use them for your purchases. If you find yourself patronizing certain stores, please consider buying scrip. Every other week the CPTO sends home an order form for you to order your cards, or you can stop in the school office and purchase cards that we have on-hand.
These cards make great birthday presents, or a great budgeting tool. Also, Kohl’s scrip cards may be applied to Kohl’s charge bill at the service counter or any checkout. Any questions contact Crystal Berg at cberg1081@gmail.com .
