Hamilton Elementary - Salute to Our Heroes
Hamilton Elementary School
Salute to Our Heroes
Friday, November 11, 2016
9:30 a.m.
We are very fortunate to live in America. As Americans, we have many freedoms. These freedoms are protected by the men and women who have served and are currently serving in the U.S. armed forces—Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy including all the Reserves.
Salute to Our Heroes is Hamilton Elementary’s way of saying thank you to our students’ family members for serving our country. We are excited to honor our Veterans in a new way this year. Students, their Veteran, and one guest will enjoy quality time together for a special breakfast concert by the 5th Grade Choir in the cafeteria served by the Student Council. To conclude the morning, all students at Hamilton will recognize the service men and women as the Veterans walk the halls during a patriotic parade.
We would like to include a slideshow of our Veterans. If you are able, please submit a photograph of your Veteran in uniform. The photo should not be larger than 8 x 10. Please do not send the original photo, as the pictures will not be returned.
We would like for you to complete the bottom of this sheet if your Veteran will be able to attend and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday, October 31, 2016.

Word of the Month
Our word of the month for November is “honor.” The defininition for our purposes is “letting someone know that you see how valuable they really are.” When you think of honor, you may think of someone receiving an award. This fits well with celebrating Veteran’s Day this month, and of course, receiving a medal or award is very special and can be one of the utmost of compliments. Even though we can’t give everyone an award or Medal of Honor, we can still thank them for their service. As a family, you can decide to honor men and women who have served our country, and find ways to do so. Have you ever stopped to think that even simple gestures can honor others, however? Not just through awards and trophies? Simply thanking your parents, hugging your teacher, or obeying the rules are also ways that you can honor special people in your life! As a family, you can decide to honor men and women who have served our country, and find ways to do so, and you can have a conversation about who is valuable to each of you, and ways in which you can let them know. What a wonderful way to honor all people in our lives!
Are you interested in Helping out a Family for Christmas?
We will be continuing our tradition of helping out our sister Cy-Fair school that has many families in need for the holidays. If you would like to participate by purchasing items for these children, be looking for the “Holiday Help” letter to be coming home with your Child on November 4. This letter will let me know how many items that you would like to help out with this year, and in turn, I will send home that number of ornament(s) with specific item(s). These RSVP’s will be due to Michelle Erickson, Counselor, by Wednesday, November 16, and the actual gifts (unwrapped) will need to be brought to Hamilton by Monday, December 5.
