Down on Glendale’s Farm
Recently, students in Pre-K at Glendale elementary enjoyed learning all about farms. In anticipation of farm week, Pre-K set up an incubator with 17 eggs, and tracked their progress on a calendar, viewing the growth, and candling the eggs to view chick development. The students recently welcomed 8 baby chicks, and are anxiously awaiting the hatching of their brothers and sisters any day now! As the students learned about where our food comes from, they were able to take part in making their own butter. The Pre-K classes were also welcomed by the local John Deere dealership, Sunshine Quality Solutions, and were given an informative presentation by Mr. Luke and Mrs. Meghan, learning all about the different equipment used on a farm. The farm unit was concluded with a visit from Bar None Ranch Farm & Petting Zoo. Students were able to hold, pet, feed, and brush 24 different animals. Some of these animals included: ducks, rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats, a donkey, a tortoise, and a bearded dragon. The children were even able to ride on a miniature pony. Glendale students made many memories down on the farm! Pre-K teachers at Glendale Elementary school are Natisha Gil and Katie Richard. Paraprofessionals are Janene Cormier, Wendy Nugent, and Penny LeJeune.

An Academic Pep Rally was held on Friday, March 31, 2017, for all 5th and 6th graders at Sunset Middle School to motivate students to do their best on the LEAP test. The rally began with a prayer by Mr. Randy Pitre, Assistant Principal. The purpose of the rally and introduction of the guest speaker was led by Ms. Lori Lastrapes. Superintendent Jenkins was the guest speaker. He promised the students if the school’s score increased by a letter grade that he would kiss a pig and allow the students to tape him to the gym wall. Students were, also, entertained by a lip sync rap battle between the Superintendent and Sanaa Smith, 5th grader. Each class participated in original chants and cheers. Mr. Curley Taylor, local zydeco musician, shared his musical talents with the students. Some students were allowed to take turns playing the rubbing board.
