STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Students of the Week
STUDENTS: Ellie Bairaktaris & Karina Poveromo
NOMINATED BY: Mrs. Hartman
Last week my class went on a field trip to the courthouse. The trip included a stop at Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Ellie and Karina noticed that one of the other students did not order anything and was not eating lunch. When they found out he had forgotten lunch money, they offered to pay for his lunch out of their own money. I was so impressed that they noticed the other student's problem and that they quickly and discretely tried to help. They are very generous young women!

Gingerbread Houses (Part 2)
Culinary 2 had a wonderful time building and decorating their gingerbread houses. Be sure to look for the tiny tear coming from Rudolph's eye - he was sent away from the reindeer stable (a very creative project save after losing a roof.) They are on display outside the media center this week.

Cells and Santa's Workshop
ADV Biology students in Mrs. Carmella's class have been busy creating models of Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration that will light up the holiday season. Also, their Cell Analogy Projects captured some EHT pride and the holiday spirit, as one group compared Santa's Workshop to all the working parts of a eukaryotic cell.

EHTHS Unsong Heroes
The EHT Sports Media class would like to honor two student athletes for the fall season, EHTHS Football's Jack Schiavo and EHT Girls Tennis's Jamie Theophall. Jack was voted as the Unsung Hero for his performance all season long and Jamie was voted as the Rookie of the Year for the fall season.
For this online competition, Sports Media was looking to give recognition to student athletes that would not normally get the accolades that other star players receive. Each coach from the fall season nominated two players and the Sports Media class highlighted each student athlete on our social media accounts. From there, the student athletes were put into a bracket system where their peers were able to vote for the student athlete that was most deserving of the award. As the results stand, both Jamie and Jack were considered the true representative of our school, their sport, and their achievement. It was a lot of fun to see the competition and the community involvement!

Superintendent's Athletic Achievement Award
This week senior Olivia Shafer was recognized at the board meeting and given the "superintendent's athletic achievement award" for her historic cross country campaign. Olivia over came a great deal of adversity over the past year just to be able to compete this season. Her long list of achievements include winning the County Championship, CAL Championship, the group 4 SJ championship, and finishing 6th overall at the state meet. Congratulations Olivia!
Congratulations to senior Communications Academy student Layla McIntosh for having her article titled College Application Process Should Move Into the 21st Century published on snjtoday.com!

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) Visits
Mr. Brower and Mr. Sauter opened up their shops this past week to representatives from Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics (PIA). Mr. Brandon Weiss, Admissions Representative, spent a day in the Automotive and Electrical shops to share with our students about the educational opportunities available at Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics. His multi-media presentation focused on the curriculum, daily routines, struggles and accomplishments of students enrolled, as well avenues to attain financial aide and special security clearances required by the Federal government for a career in the aeronautic industry. Mr. Weiss took the time to answer every question from our students concerning the specific skills/training required to be certified as an Aviation Electronics Technician (AET) and/or an Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT). Plans are in the works for Mr. Brower / Mr. Sauter’s students to visit one of PIA’s campuses, as well the American Airlines Maintenance hangar at Philadelphia International Airport to speak with certified technicians about their experiences in the industry and to see first-hand what this exciting career path has to offer.
