Room 26 Weekly News
December 18-21, 2017
Announcements
Can you believe this is the last week of school for 2017?! This year is going by so fast!
This Thursday (12/21) is a Minimum Day. Students will be released at 12:55 p.m. on Thursday. There will be no lunch served at school that day. (Students will have recess as normal, so they may bring a snack.)
We are having our classroom Winter Party on Thursday morning. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to send in food for our breakfast party. We are still in need of some mini bagels, cream cheese, and fruit other than grapes. I could use 2-3 volunteers that morning if any of you are available and have the inclination to help out. If not, please do not feel obligated. :-)
Thursday is also the first annual Room 26 Ugly Holiday Sweater contest. Hopefully you got my email about this last week...your awesome, creative, funny students came up with this great idea!! Students should plan on wearing the tackiest, funniest, gaudiest winter sweater they can find or create. This is all in good fun, and the more who participate, the more fun it will be. One of the best sweaters I've ever seen was homemade with a bunch of cheap ornaments, tinsel, bells, etc. (they went to the Dollar Store) hot-glued onto an old sweatshirt. Adorably ugly and hilarious! "Awards" will be given out in several categories: Most Comical, Most Creative, Best Homemade Sweater, Best Traditional Sweater, and Best Use of Accessories. Mrs. Fig and Mrs. Kawzenuk will be judging the contest, although everyone is a winner because we all get to dress up! :-) I will be sure to get some pictures and upload them to Class Dojo.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you who have donated time and money to the LCM PTO. The support from parents at LCM help make our school the special place that it is. PTO funds such things as 1:1 technology, art, science garden, music, as well as sponsoring experiences for students such as the arts experience field trips we've been able to do the past two years, Biz Town for 5th graders, assemblies, and other programs. PTO has also provided funds to pay for morning supervision in our parking lot and on our blacktop so teachers are able to focus on preparing lessons for students, meeting with each other to collaborate, and having the time to meet with parents before school. As a teacher, I am so incredibly grateful to the PTO. Our school would not be the same and our students would not have access to such wonderful learning opportunities without the contributions of time and money from our amazing families. If you have not done so, I would encourage you to donate to the WAVE fund (it is tax deductible!) and to volunteer an hour or two of your time at one of the fabulous events the PTO organizes every year (Halloween Carnival, Daddy Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Kickball, Spring Fling, etc.)
