RHS Counseling Connection
2020 - 2021: November/December
We know that the winter months can feel long and often difficult for various reasons and there are a lot of things going on, locally and nationally, that are impacting our physical and emotional well-being. As we go into November and December, we want to make sure that you all have information about community resources and supports that you can access now and throughout the winter months. Every resource provided in this newsletter will be accompanied by a link to a website with more up to date information. Please remember that you can always reach out to your counselor if you need additional support or if you have any questions about any of the resources provided.

Portland Public Schools community partners Big Village and Volunteers of America are offering a FREE Family Night on December 12th from 6:00-7:30pm. Topics will include mental health and wellness, celebrating during a pandemic, and mutual support break out groups for parents by grade level.
This is a great opportunity for parents to hear some new ideas and connect with others who are facing the same challenges.
Monday-Friday 12-7pm. Parents know how lonely it is to care for a young person experiencing emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges. It can be frightening and isolating. It’s hard to know where and how to reach out for help and information. As caregivers, we have experience navigating challenges on behalf of our children and families. And as a community, we have much to offer one another. This is what Reach Out Oregon is all about, a supportive community where you will find a support team: Parent to Parent.

PPS and Student Success Center are hosting a safe affinity space for Black students to process and unpack the trauma and grief that they may be dealing with as a result of police brutality, opposition to the BLM movement, seeing fellow black people lose their lives without consequence, the pandemic, etc. Click on the flyer to register.
