October: The Month of the Rosary
The Rosary is a prayer which always accompanies me. It’s also the prayer of ordinary people and the saints...and a prayer from my heart. - Pope Francis
The month of October is dedicated to the holy Rosary and includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th. The best way to celebrate this month is, of course, to pray the Rosary.
The Rosary can also be a great teaching tool in the classroom, drawing its Mysteries from the New Testament - with each decade referring to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary and providing us with "glimpses" into their lives.
- The Joyful Mysteries are taken mostly from Saint Luke’s Gospel in the New Testament. They describe the joyful events of Jesus’ childhood.
- The Luminous Mysteries bring a deeper understanding to the public life of Jesus. They fill in the blanks between the childhood of Jesus and His suffering and death on the cross.
- The Sorrowful Mysteries remind us of how much Jesus loves us. They recall how He suffered and died just for us.
- The Glorious Mysteries tell us what happened after Jesus died - His Resurrection, the descent of the Holy Spirit and the love Jesus had for his Mother. (From Catholic.org)
We can use the Mysteries in a variety of ways in every classroom: as an overview of the various events in the life of Jesus and his Mother; as an introduction to praying the Rosary at the start of the school day (especially in October and May); and as a teaching tool in Religion classes. Most importantly, as we meditate on these great Mysteries, we can help our students draw closer to Jesus and Mary.
PRIDE In the Virtue: PATIENCE
Our virtue this week is PATIENCE. During the month of October we are focusing on virtues that we can relate to Our Blessed Mother. God gave us the Blessed Virgin Mary as a model of all virtues, but more especially as an example of patience. Patience is the virtue that enables us to endure all the wrongs and misfortunes of life without discouragement, but instead with hope and trust in God. When throws you an unexpected curveball, remember Our Lady's patience and trust in God.
We are making progress on our Honor Flight fundraising goal!
As of September 30th, we have raised $315 towards our $1000! Our next red, white and blue themed dress day will be Wednesday, October 11th. Students must donate a minimum of $2 to participate.
