The Great Depression

The Great Depression started with the stock market crash in 1929, where there was a panic and everyone started to sell their shares in companies causing prices to drop. In addition to this, there were people trying to cash in their checks at the bank. The banks couldn't keep up, and quickly ran out of paper money. This spiraled into the depression, soup lines and impoverished families were all around the streets of every major city in America.

The American Dream

The American Dream, what is it? Formally speaking, it is an ethos of the United States.Democracy, Rights, Liberty, Opportunity, and Equality are the ideals that convey that america is where people can come to to be successful. The American Dream lives in the minds of everyone who believes they can make something of themselves.

Back in the days of the great depression, the American Dream may have been less optimistic, what with an economic depression. The people who were in America at the time were working hard and for some that payed off. During the depression, author James Truslow Adams wrote a book titled, "The Epic of America" where he says, "...dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone," which shows that the Americans, even in the depression, felt they knew it would all be better if they just worked hard .
