Ms. Trahan - Team 1 Counselor
My name is Delia Trahan and the 2021-2022 school year will be my 17th year working in education. I have been fortunate to work at every level of education over that time, from the PreK to the college level. I am originally from Beaumont, Texas and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2004 and Lamar University in 2015. I began my career in Lewisville ISD where I spent 12 years serving various roles at Killian Middle School and The Colony High School including social studies teacher, girls' athletics coach, testing coordinator and finally as a professional school counselor/Collegiate Academy program coordinator. I am so excited to start my 2nd year with Denton ISD and the Crownover family. My family and I are residents of Denton and love to serve our community. My husband, Adam, is a professor at UNT and we have two daughters. Evangeline is a 7th grader at Crownover and Everly is in 2nd grade at Nettie Schultz Elementary. I love to read, watch The Office, listen to true crime podcasts, travel, and camping!
Ms. Cantu - Team 2 Counselor
I am Clarissa Cantu, I have been in education for 13 years. I graduated with my undergrade degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Bilingual certification. I had the privilege of working at Borman Elementary as a Bilingual Pre-k, Kinder and 3rd grade teacher. I then moved to Ginnings Elementary where I taught Bilingual 3rd grade for a couple more years, and decided to return to school to start working on my Masters Degree. I completed my program in Counseling and Development with an emphasis in School Counseling in 2015. I had the great honor of becoming the next School Counselor at Ginnings Elementary that same year. I stayed at Ginnings till this past school year, and now I call Ronny Crownover Middle School my new home. I am super excited and thrilled to work with the staff, parents and students at RCMS and know that we will have a great year together.
Here are some fun facts about me. I was born and raised in Decatur, TX. I have two older brothers who have wonderful families. I have 3 dogs: Vaquero (13 years old), Oso (11 years old) and Cory (1 year old) (all variations of Chihuahuas). I enjoy running, dancing, paint, hanging out with my friends and family. I am always available to help my families in any thing that you may need. I am so happy to be part of the Crownover community!
Ms. Garza - Impact Counselor
Hello! I am very excited to be part of the Crownover team. I have worked in education for the last 5 years, 3 at TWU as a career counselor and 2 at UNT providing professional development workshops for student employees. I am a proud first generation college graduate. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas where I also did my undergrad in rehabilitation and addiction studies. During my grad program I interned at Denton County Friends of the Family as a play and family therapist. On the weekends I work at a small private practice where I primarily serve Spanish speaking families. Last year I got to serve as the part time relief counselor at Denton High and loved working with DISD students. It was hectic, fun, and just the right amount of anxiety provoking, which led to me transitioning from higher ed to this position!
I am passionate about providing counseling services for underrepresented populations in education settings. I was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States when I was 6, and I struggled to adapt to a new culture and school environment - it's why I'm so excited to serve students who are struggling with their mental health. So if you have kiddos who need someone to talk to, send them my way!

Ms. Garza's Tip of the Month
Write it and let it be!
Breath. It’s the start of a new year. We’re back to pre-covid days along with a continuation of covid life. Many of us haven’t been on a school campus in almost two years, and with that comes anxiety, fear, and uncertainty about school. We’re here to help you as best as we can - but we can’t do it all! We need you to help us help you. This month, practice taking some time at the end of your day to breathe, think about the bright moments throughout your day, but also about the not so bright ones. Write a sticky note about whatever it is that bothered you in class and leave it on a notebook that you won’t see at home. The tip is -- write it and let it be. Go home, enjoy your family, your pets, be with your friends! You are a student, but that title does not define who you are outside of this building. Take care of yourself so that we can come back the next day and do it all over again.

College and Career Tips
August College Tip!
Make a spreadsheet with each college and a list of positives and negatives. Get on a campus if possible! Denton is a great college town with plenty of opportunities to get on campus for athletic, music or other events. Take advantage of having these schools close by to familiarize yourself with a typical college campus environment.
Attend a college fair! NORTEX, North Texas's largest college fair, will take place on Monday, September 13th from 6:30-8:30 at the Golden Triangle Mall. There will be college recruitment representatives from Texas and across the country. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about lots of colleges in one place...and it is just down the road!
