Soccer Wins First State Championship In Program History
Congratulations to the boys soccer program on winning their first state championship in program history. On Friday night, the Vikings advanced to the state championship game with a 4-1 win over state power Rockhurst. The Vikings then returned on Saturday in front of a huge crowd to face five-time state champion DeSmet in the state championship game. The Vikings shut out the DeSmet Spartans 1-0 to claim their first state championship in program history in their first appearance in the state championship game. The Vikings ended this historic run with a 20-7-1 record on their way to the GAC South Championship, District Championship, and State Championship.
Not only did the soccer program have success on the field this season but they also had great success in the classroom and in the community. The state champions hold a cumulative GPA of 3.39 in the classroom. This group of young men were also involved in the community with the Special Needs Soccer Association (SPENSA) and raised nearly $1000 for cancer research through their fundraising efforts. The boys soccer program truly exemplified the goal of all FHHS programs which is to attain academic excellence, outreach into the community, and on-field success.
Congratulations to Coach Enright, his staff, and the soccer program for a historic season!

Making The Most Of The High School Experience
In order to make these opportunities available, it takes a great group of leaders that value these opportunities and understand what can be gained from participation. Coaches and sponsors can have a major impact on the development of the young men and women at FHHS. This past week Mizzou's head football coach, Gary Pinkel, announced he will resign at the end of the football season as he battles lymphoma. Whether you are a Gary Pinkel fan or not it was easy to see the impact he had on his players just minutes after making his retirement announcement. He clearly had an impact on those in his program and those individuals feel they greatly benefitted from being involved in his program. Below I have shared a letter that local high school product and former Mizzou football player TJ Moe shared via Twitter. It highlights the great opportunities and benefits that he gained from being involved in Mizzou's football program and the impact that his coach (Gary Pinkel) had on him.
As we continue to implement leadership development within our programs and strive to have our sponsors and coaches lead and coach the entire student-participant, we hope to develop great young men and women that graduate from FHHS and that are successful beyond their high school years. Being involved in activities, clubs, and sports is an important piece of this development.

At FHHS student-participants are truly students first. As part of the commitment of FHHS to prepare students for college and life beyond high school the guidance department is offering ACT Prep through the Doorway to College Foundation. The ACT Prep seminar being offered will help students to:
- Learn tips for improving subtests
- Practice strategies to eliminate wrong answer choices
- Take shortened practice tests
- Prepare to write a well-organized persuasive essay
- Reduce test anxiety
- Receive a comprehensive study guide
This ACT Prep opportunity is being offered at night to help meet the needs of those involved in activities, clubs, and sports at FHHS. We strongly encourage all FHHS student-participants to take advantage of this great opportunity.
