Madison Traditional Academy - The Guild PTO
Principal's Update
October 28, 2022
Dear Parents,
Halloween: Just a friendly reminder, to keep the focus on learning, students are not
allowed to bring (or wear) costumes, masks, colored hair, props, etc., to school. Please
be sure that if your child does use coloring in their hair or face make-up for Halloween,
they can thoroughly wash it out before coming to school on Friday, November 1st.
In addition, to keep the focus on student learning and limit distractions, I am also
requesting that adults that visit or volunteer comply with these requests.
Attendance: As part of the funding process, Districts must report attendance daily to
the State. Due to the State guidelines, this could mean that a Tardy could be registered
as an absence and recorded that way in our system and on the report card. These
guidelines are based on the instructional minutes in a day.
For MTA, this means the following:
- Students arriving after 8 a.m. but before 9:46 (9:23 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as tardy
- Students arriving between 9:46 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. (9:23-10:45 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as a Half Day Absence
- Students arriving after 11:30 a.m. (10:45 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as a Full Day
Absence
- Students who are checked out for the day before 11:30 a.m. (10:45 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as a Full Day Absence
- Students checked out for the day between 11:31 and 1:14 p.m. (10:45-12:07 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as a Half Day Absence
- Students checked out after 1:15 p.m. (12:07 on 1:30 dismissals) are marked as Tardy (referred to as a “Reverse Tardy”)
I know this seems odd, that your child could be at school but marked absent, but these
guidelines are determined and required by the State.
Sincerely,
Chris Merrill

Guild Updates
As we begin the second quarter, we wanted to take the time to remind our families of the history of Madison Traditional Academy. Many families have come here because of its reputation but stay because of the community. It is important to share that high reputation did not happen by accident. That result was achieved through a combination of efforts with students, teachers, faculty, and the families. Madison Traditional Academy is a traditional school that was created as a "school of choice". Families must meet the behavior, attendance, and family volunteer requirements referenced in the parent commitment form (signed by all families during enrollment).
Everything about MTA was done with intention, even the smallest details such as: uniforms designed to reduce distraction; homework assigned to give parents the opportunity to participate in their child’s education; and volunteering to create strong ties to the community. With Covid, we recognize that many newer families may be less familiar with the intent of the foundations at MTA.
We encourage you to revisit your parent commitment pact to fully understand these foundations and view them in a positive light.
Supporting these foundations is a great way to support the mission of the school that gives so much to our students and to maintain the high reputation that brought us all here. We appreciate all the families that embrace the culture and community that has been created. We look forward to seeing all of you throughout the school year.
