FUN FAIR BASKET
As part of the upcoming Fun Fair, taking place on Friday, June 9th, each class is putting together a basket to raffle off that night. The theme of our class basket is "Sidewalk Fun". We are hoping to purchase outdoor toys, chalk and other fun stuff. Our class is asking that each family contribute $5-$10 dollars to purchase items for the basket. Please turn in whatever you would like to contribute to Mrs. Gray by Friday, May 19th in an envelope with your child's name on it, marked FUN FAIR. Thank you in advance.
Class basket coordinator,
Jessica Heenan
Symphony Field Trip - May 25th. Permission slip for this came home yesterday. Kids need to return the signed from with $3. Mrs. Mueller and I would like for the kids to wear something nicer than they would normally wear to school. For girls, this could be capri pants or a skirt with a nice shirt, or a dress. For boys, this could be a nice part of pants or shirts with a nice shirt. For both boys and girls, please try to avoid athletic pants or shorts as well as shirt with sayings on them. A plain colored tshirt or a polo type shirt would be best. Kids are more than welcome to change once we get back to school.
Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Trip - June 5th. Permission slips went home last week. Let me know if you did not get one. The more chaperones the better on this trip. Monies and forms MUST be in by May 19th. We have to purchase tickets ahead of time. If you are chaperoning your ticket will be sent home with your child the Thursday before (June 1).
Curriculum Update
Reading -
We have started reading the book, Bud, Not Buddy. It is a fantastic story that takes place near Flint Michigan at the time of the Great Depression. Ask your kiddo about Bud's Rules and Things!
Writing-
We are wrapping up our friendly letters about the West Region. Kids are working on revising and editing right now.
Math -
Unit 9 in math is all about fractions, decimals and percents. Kids will also be multiplying and diving decimals. Unit 9 Math test will be on Thursday, 5/18. We will only have ONE day for this test review.
Science -
Students have been building electric circuits using a light bulb, d-cell battery, wires and a switch. They have made a simple circuit. Our next step is exploring parallel circuits.
Social Studies -
June 2nd is the 50 States Test. Kids will get a blank map and will have to label the 50 states and spell them correctly. They will not need to know the capitols.
We are also learning about the push and pull factors in regards to people moving to new places within the United States.
Mini Society- Kids got their business plan sheets today. Those are due back on Tuesday, May 16th. They also should have brought home two yellow pieces of paper with specific dates. Market Day is on Thursday, June 8th. Parents are invited to attend and shop. Shopping will start around 1:45ish and last for an hour.
