ROUNTREE VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE - TONIGHT!
Rountree Family,
VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT!
Our Open House this year will be a virtual event. Your child’s classroom teacher has shared links to your child’s personal portfolio of work for you to peruse and an interactive activity that can be played at your home via a virtual classroom platform.
This is a virtual event planned for TONIGHT! There will be no Open House activities at the school. Any additional information was shared this week from your child’s classroom teacher.
Such an exciting time to review your child's amazing work!

Watch D.O.G.S. Update
Here at Rountree, we are SO sad that we haven’t had our amazing Watch D.O.G.S. here in-person. Watch D.O.G.S. are a big and important part of our school community, so please check out the opportunities below for ways you can still help us from home.
Make a Short Video (3 min. max)
- Record your Rountree student(s) interviewing you.
- See below for some tips & questions
- Record yourself telling a funny kids joke
Ask people in the community what they would say to their younger selves.
**Please remind them their audience is full of kids ages 5-12
Record a video of yourself reading a children’s book.
**Bonus points if you can do different voices!**
- Something else! Be creative, be fun, and be YOU- stay under 3 minutes.
Once you finish your video, share it with Mrs. Vaughan via email (catherine.vaughan@allensid.org) or upload it to Google Drive and share it that way. We will show these right after Morning Announcements. Be sure to ask Mrs. Vaughan if you have any questions or concerns.
Video Tips
- Remember to look at the camera. Don’t watch yourself on the screen the whole time. Trust me, they’ll notice!
- Make sure you have adequate lighting.
- Introduce yourself—something like this-
- Hi, I’m John Appleseed, and I’m Johnny Appleseed’s father. Johnny is in Mrs. _______’s class.
- If reading a book, be sure you tell us the author’s name along with the title of the book.
- Feel free to add why you chose that particular book to read.
Possible Interview Questions
- What is your job? What do you do all day?
- Why did you choose that job?
- What skills would I need if I wanted to work where you do?
- Do you have any advice for kids like me?
- Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?
Once you finish your video, share it with Mrs. Vaughan via email (catherine.vaughan@allensid.org) or upload it to Google Drive and share it that way. Be sure to let Mrs. Vaughan know if you have any questions or concerns.

Information for Current 6th Graders
Attention Current 6th Graders!
The Advanced Math 7 Criteria has been set by the district.
Students must qualify for enrollment in Math 7 Advanced (formerly Math 7 Pre-AP/IB). There is no need to request evaluation or submit additional data.
In late Spring, all current 6th grade students are evaluated to qualify for placement in Math 7 Advanced. In this first evaluation, a student may qualify by meeting at least two of these three district criteria for placement:
- 5th grade math simulation exam masters level score
- first-semester 6th-grade math grade of 90% or higher
- 6th grade MAP middle of year (MOY) exam masters level score
Students qualifying at this interval are placed in Math 7 Advanced. This will be reflected in the student’s course selection preview through Skyward in May.
For the 2021-2022 school year, any student who did not meet the initial qualifications for Math 7 Advanced will be re-evaluated during the summer using the additional criteria of the 6th grade Math STAAR score and the course grade for the second semester of 6th grade math. There is no need to request evaluation or submit additional data. In this second evaluation, a student typically qualifies by meeting at least two of the four district criteria for placement:
- 5th grade math simulation exam masters level score
- 6th grade MAP middle of year (MOY) masters level score
- 6th grade math STAAR masters level score
- 90% or higher in the first and/or second semester of 6th grade math
Students qualifying for Math 7 Advanced based on this evaluation are placed in Math 7 Advanced. This will be reflected in the student’s course schedule through Skyward in August.
Trustworthiness: Character Trait for the Month of March
During March, teachers will be looking for students who demonstrate that they are trustworthy. This looks like: going where you are supposed to go, showing up when you are expected, turning your work in on time, keeping your promises. Basically, it's doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Don’t Forget-- at the end of each month, we will recognize and reward these positive behaviors we are seeing at Rountree.
We will wear yellow on Tuesday, March 2nd, for Trustworthiness.
Reminder for all grade levels - Mask & Change of Clothing
Parents,
This is just a friendly reminder to send a change of clothing for all grade levels. Also, please make sure masks/face coverings for students are placed in their backpacks and ready to take to school along with all of their other necessary supplies. Thank you!

Education through Diversity - Significance of Colors
Green is the color of ribbon to be worn during March. The history of awareness ribbons is unclear, but they take roots from the practices followed in medieval times when ladies gave knights their token of affection and love in the form of a ribbon. A few people believe that ribbons first gained popularity in the U.S. during the Civil War. Women also wore yellow ribbons to express gratitude for loved ones on the battlefield during the war.
March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Cerebral Palsy (CP) is caused by a brain injury or abnormality that occurs during or before a child’s birth. Typically people with CP have poor muscle coordination and difficulty controlling certain body movements. However, some people have more disabling symptoms than others. Result of CP can look like a minor limp or be extensive as paralysis of the legs or hands, speech impairment, and sometimes intellectual disabilities. Wear green all month long to recognize the accomplishments of people who did not let this physical impairment stop them from their dreams!
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 2, Abbey Nicole Curran made history when she became the first Miss USA contestant with a disability. She created the “Miss You Can Do It" pageant for young girls with special needs.
Bonner Paddock became the first person with CP to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro unassisted. He is also the founder and chair of a foundation that raises money to build early-learning centers that provide various types of therapies for children with disabilities.
