A REMINDER OF OUR COVID-SMART MEASURES IN PLACE THROUGHOUT TERM 4
NSW Health recently advised that we are starting to see a rise in COVID-19 transmissions within the community, with a peak of cases expected in early December.
At Winston Heights PS we are starting to see an increase in the number of students and community members who have tested positive to COVID-19.
Our COVID-smart measures continue to be in place and are vital in allowing us to keep our school operational while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These measures include:
- Students and staff must stay home if unwell and/or showing any symptoms.
- Symptoms include fever (37.5 degrees Celsius or higher), cough, sore throat, shortness of breath (difficulty breathing), runny nose, loss of taste, loss of smell.
- Other reported symptoms include: fatigue, acute blocked nose (congestion), muscle pain, joint pain, headache, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite.
- In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia with severe acute respiratory distress.
- Our school will continue to send home students or staff displaying symptoms
- Maintaining hygiene and cleaning practices
- Maximising natural ventilation
- Mask-wearing is encouraged, particularly when indoors and/or when physical distancing is not possible
- Using rapid antigen tests (RATs) when showing symptoms or exposed to COVID-19
Does your child have ongoing symptoms? Talk to your local medical practitioner
Parents and carers who have children with persistent or ongoing symptoms of COVID-19 are encouraged to be assessed by their local medical practitioner. These symptoms may be related to other illnesses that require treatment and management by a doctor.
Reporting requirements from 14 October
Please continue to notify the school if your child tests positive to COVID-19 as we will continue to notify the school community of any known positive cases to prioritise student and staff safety and wellbeing.
Please note that our changes to isolation requirements are based on the recommendations from NSW Health. Anyone who tests positive to COVID-19 or suspects that they have been in contact with a positive case should continue to follow the latest health advice.
GRANDPARENTS DAY
Yesterday our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 children entertained their grandparents, parents and friends when celebrating Grandparents Day. Each K-2 class performed a well-known song, with many visitors singing along. To end the assembly, grandparents and guests were invited to join our students and teachers in dancing the Chicken Dance. We all had a wonderful time quacking, flapping, wiggling and swirling with our partner. Following the performances, our special guests and students enjoyed morning tea together outside in the beautiful sunshine. It was such a wonderful morning, and I would like to thank our grandparents and visitors for making the time to attend. I would also like to thank our Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers for their preparation and organisation of Grandparents Day!
YEAR 6 MINI FAIR
There is a lot of excitement in the air for the upcoming Year 6 Mini Fair on Thursday 24 November. Our Year 6 students and teachers have been busy preparing for this major fundraiser, with all money raised going toward the Year 6 Farewell and purchase of the Year 6 gift to the school.
On the day, Students in Kindergarten to Year 5 will be able to use their pre-purchased tokens to participate in the following fun-filled activities:
- Haunted House - 3 tokens
- Disco Room - 2 tokens
- Ice cream - 3 tokens
- White Elephant Stall - Between 1 - 5 tokens
- Dunk Tank - 2 tokens for 1 throw; 3 tokens for 2 throws

A reminder that students will be able to dress in MUFTI (no uniform) on this day. Students should wear comfortable enclosed shoes (no thongs, sandals, or open toe shoes). Clothing should follow these guidelines - shoulders should be covered (no singlets); shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer; and dresses must be knee length or longer to ensure sun safety. Clothes with inappropriate slogans or images are not allowed. Remember to send your child to school with a hat and water bottle, clearly labelled with their name.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Our school community values the way our students wear their uniform with pride and honour, and it really is lovely to see all students dressed in our Winston Heights PS uniform every day.
Even though we are coming to the end of the school year, all students need to continue to wear:
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - full school summer uniform, black shoes, and correct socks
- Tuesday, Friday - full sport uniform, including the correct socks
LAST DAY OF TERM 4 FOR STUDENTS
A reminder that the last day of Term 4 for students is Friday 16 December.
Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 December are school development days. These days allow our staff to participate in professional learning that was put on hold due to COVID-19 staffing pressures. It also allows us to plan ahead for 2023 to ensure we meet the needs of our students.
Over the coming weekends and with all the gorgeous weather we’re having at the moment, I hope you’re able to find time to enjoy the sunshine and spend time with family and friends.
