Irmo Elementary Family Updates
#HeartoftheHive August 8-12
A Note From Your Principal
Dear IES Families,
It is almost time to begin our 2022-2023 school year at IES and I cannot tell you the excitement I have for our bees to bring the life back into our hive.
Our staff family is ready to welcome every student at Hive Homecoming on August 11th. This will provide an opportunity for your child to meet their teacher and visit their new classroom. Please review the specific details below. I have included pictures from our Hive Homecoming Event in 2021 that I hope you will enjoy. I cannot describe the feeling this event brings to our IES family but if you have not experienced it before, you will soon know. The heart of the hive is a very special place and I am looking forward to an amazing year.
Each week your family will receive the parent newsletter on Sunday at 6:30 pm. It will include important upcoming events and information your family needs to know. Please reach out to us at 803-476-4200 if you have questions. Please join us on August 11th in the heart of the hive!

You can stop by the D5 transportation table in the cafeteria during Hive Homecoming to confirm your child's bus numbers along with route times. Don't forget to let your child's teacher know the bus number your child should be riding if you are aware. This is always helpful.

Practical Information About the First Few Days of School:
Arrival: All students arrive between 7:15 am and 7:45 am and should report directly to their grade level. There will be multiple staff members to assist ALL students.
Supplies: It is preferred that you bring your school supplies to Hive Homecoming on August 11th. If this option does not work for your family, students do not need to bring all school supplies on the first day of school. They can be brought over the first two weeks of school as we do not want them to have the burden of carrying too much. Please bag and label all items with the student’s and teacher’s name after school begins.
Outdoor Activities: Students may be involved in some outdoor activities such as tours, recess, and PE on these days as well, so please wear clothing appropriate for both school and warmer weather. Students may bring a water bottle.
Entering the Building: All parent who wish to enter the school must do so through the front door of IES. There will be newly installed metal detectors that every person who enters the building will be required to pass through the first day. Parking may be difficult for those who would like to walk their students to class.
Photo Opportunities: We will have outside areas set up for those first day photos again this year! Several photo spots will be down by the large staff parking lot off of Fork Avenue (plenty of parking here) and several spots will be located at the front of IES (not in the firelane). Reserved parking located up front just for the first day.
Hug & Wave: Parents may park in our large staff parking lot off of Fork Avenue, walk children to the designated entrances, take a photo at the photo stops, and give a big hug, smile, and wave as students begin their first day of school. Staff members will welcome students at the designated entrances and assist them in finding their classrooms. If you would like to walk your child to class the first day, you must enter the front of the building and utilize the newly installed metal detectors. Parents will not be able to enter the building from any other location.

Health Room Information
I sure have missed seeing all our Bee's this summer and I'm so excited to see you back in the Hive in just a few days. Before the school year ended, I sent home paperwork to the students who take daily medications while at school or who keep emergency medication in the Health Room. Please make sure the paperwork has been signed by your child's physician and that you have non-expired meditation to bring back to school for the 2022-2023 school year.
I will be in the Health Room 8/11, 8/12 and 8/15 for you to bring in all signed paperwork and medication prior to the first day of school. I highly recommend that you bring medication before school starts so that we are ready to hit the ground running on the first day.
If you have misplaced your paperwork please send me an email at mnobles@lexrich5.org and I can email you a copy of it.
See you soon,
Nurse Nobles
