Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Ms. Clark

August 30, 2018

Dear Parents,

I am delighted that we will be opening our doors next week to welcome our students back to school for the 2019-2020 academic year! At SKD, we are passionate about Catholic education and look forward to partnering with you as we continue to provide our students with an engaging, rigorous, and high-quality faith-based education. Parents are every child’s first teacher and by working together, we can ensure that your child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and academic needs are met.

We recognize the sacrifices you and your families make to send your children to Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic School. The faith-based education you have chosen provides an atmosphere warmed by the powerful presence of our loving and faithful God. I urge you to support our school through your prayers and participation. The close ties between family and school reinforce moral values and nurture our faith tradition.

It’s time to turn our summer rest into energy that will magically turn into the important work of Catholic education. We look forward to welcoming our children to school with all their enthusiasm anticipating a new school year! Enjoy the Labor Day weekend!

God’s blessings,

Ms. Clark

Lunch Monitors- Help Needed

Lunch monitors are needed on a permanent basis. Each monitor will be assigned to supervise the students at lunch and recess. Our Pre-K and Kindergarten duty is from 11:20am to 12:30pm and our Grades 1-8 duty is from 11:45AM to 1:00PM each full school day. If you are able to give your time, please email Mrs. Guarino or call the school. Lunch monitors must be in compliance with the Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements and have all background checks, and the documentations must be on file. Please check the school website for a list of these requirements.

Student Safety First

IMPORTANT- When arriving to school in the morning, all cars and buses MUST enter the entrance by the Saint Katharine Drexel School Sign and exit through the driveway closest to the church. No car or bus will be permitted to enter through the driveway closest to the church.

Please enter the morning drop-off car line with caution. The morning drop off is an express line; parents may not stop and get out of their cars. Students must exit from the PASSENGER SIDE only. Students MUST be ready to exit the car once pulling into the car line drop-off in order to eliminate back-up traffic. DO NOT DRIVE OUT OF THE CAR LINE. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE LINE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO EXIT.

If you need to bring your child into the school building, you MUST park your car in the front of the school and enter through the main school entrance. You must report to the office. No cars are permitted to park or idle in front of the school in the fire lane.

School Hours are from 8:15am to 2:45PM and 8:30am to 2:30pm for our Pre-Kindergarten. Please call the school office and leave your child’s name and room number on the attendance line if your child is going to be absent for the day. If the absence is not reported to the office by 9am, a phone call will be made to confirm an absence.

Late Arrivals

After 8:15am, your child is considered late. Parent and child must report to the school office and sign a late arrival form. Children will not be admitted into school late without a parent present, so please do not just drop your child off at the front school door.

Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. This teaches our students respect and courtesy along with an understanding of the importance of being on time. When a child is late, it disrupts the morning routines of the classroom and often the child becomes overwhelmed.

Early Dismissal

If your child must leave school before the end of the school day, an early dismissal form must be completed and sent to the homeroom teacher in the morning. Parents are to come to the school office to pick up their child for dismissal.

Breakfast and Lunch Menus

These can be located in the Parent Resource section of the website. Monthly breakfast and lunch orders and any correspondence from Mrs. Berk, our cafeteria coordinator, can also be found in this section. If your child should forget his/her lunch, you can place his/her lunch in the Late Lunch Bin in the school vestibule. This bin will be taken to the cafeteria at lunch. Please instruct your child to check this bin if he/she should forget his/her lunch.

Jean Day Revision

This year we will have three Jean Days each month.

  • One will be dedicated to service and a specific charity. We will inform you of the charity each month and students will be able to dress down for a donation of $1 or more.
  • Another day will be dedicated to school spirit and students may dress down and wear their SKD spirit gear or Blue Ribbon T-shirts.
  • The final day will be designated as a "Good Time" Ticket Day. Children who obtain ten good time tickets can dress down on this assigned day.

Please be sure to check the newsletter each week for dates to remember.
