Cleaning
As you know we are taking extra steps to stop/slow the spread of illness in our school. The best source of information is always the CDC and Oregon Health Authority. In addition, I wanted to update you on important information about cleaning procedures in the district in response to COVID-19.
The district has allocated additional (overtime) custodial hours on each campus. Frequently touched surfaces (door handles, light switches, handrails, desk surfaces, etc.) will be disinfected daily.
All employees are responsible for cleaning their personal workspaces, which may include their desk, telephone, keyboard, chair or any other items they use in performing their duties. You should use a district approved sanitizer; leave on surfaces for at least 10 minutes before wiping off, or allow it to dry overnight. Please see a custodian if you need a bottle for your classroom or workspace. (Employees should not bring in cleaners from home. NOTE: liquid bleach is not allowed in schools at any time.)
The district is instructing us to clean computer keyboards (not screens!) at least once daily. For this task the approved materials are A) Clorox / Lysol wipes or B) spray disinfectant on a towel and then apply to the keyboard.
Please continue to encourage frequent hand-washing among students, and remember to stay home if you are sick. If you have additional questions / concerns based on your individual situation, please let me know.
Read-a-thon ended March 5th
Online we raised just over $14,000 and read 100,000 minutes! Wow! Great work everyone. Here is our fundraising page: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/httpwwwmcl The fundraiser is closed. We just need to account for checks and do the final calculations for minutes read before we announce our winners.
Spring Conferences
https://ptcfast.com/schools/John_McLoughlin_Elementary
Please note a few guidelines that I want you to adhere to.
1. Do not do more than one conference per child.
2. Do not accommodate conferences outside of these 2 days.
There will be very rare circumstances in which we will accommodate these requests. Your time is valuable. It is important that we all follow the same expectations. It sends a strong message to families when we have different allowances we make. You are refer any upset family member to me.
Reminder:
- Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday and Thursday, March 18 & 19. Both days are 12 hour days (Friday, March 20th the building will be closed)
- Our PTSO will provide staff with lunch and dinner on Wednesday, March 18th

Report Cards Must Be Done By Tuesday
- Synergy Report Card Grading Window will open February 24th; you can start entering grades then
- Music Grade: Teachers need to enter the music grade for each student. Each student will be given a "3" for the Winter Trimester report card (per Candice)
- I won't be able to start printing report cards until March 9th (attendance absences and tardies will not populate until after the official grading window date of March 6th)
- As always, please email me when your report cards are done and ready to be printed
- Remember: Mark your class report cards "Completed"; that "moves them over" which enable me to print
- I will print in the order I receive emails from teachers
- You will be given 2 copies of the student report card: one to send home and one for you to keep
- You will also be given a report card envelope, labeled with the student's name
- Report Cards will go home with students on Friday, March 13th
Roald Dahl "...the more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves. If you never let them take any risks, then I believe they become very prone to injury."
