Updates
As many of you have heard, Governor Whitmer issued an executive order closing all schools until the end of the academic year. Please review our District statement from Superintendent Ehlers below. Our staff has many mixed emotions regarding this order, but mainly we are sad. We are sad for the missed opportunities and experiences that we anticipated sharing with your child.
In light of this order, we are working diligently to provide your child with what they need to finish this year. Our teachers are working to flip their classrooms to be accessible online. They are learning new platforms, redesigning lessons and reaching out to your kids. Please be patient with us as we complete this transition.
Please remember that we will still observe Spring Break for both our students and staff from April 6-10th. Our teachers will then spend the week of April 13th wrapping up 3rd Marking Period and making new lessons for their official launch on April 20th.

5th Grade Parents and Guardians
The spring is typically a time of planning for the upcoming school year. Unfortunately, we have not been able to complete our typical planning with your 5th grader due to the mandated closure. In an effort to stay on track with our planning for the 2020-21 school year, we would like to ask that you and your child complete the enclosed form regarding elective classes for their 6th grade year. Please click here for the form.
All 6th grade students will be scheduled for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education and Health. This allows room in their daily schedule for 1 elective class. Students may choose from Band, Choir, or a general elective. Band and Choir are both year long classes, students that choose Band or Choir will remain in that class for the entire school year. The general elective will include a rotation of elective classes that will include different types of classes such as Project Based Learning and STEM.
Student schedules will be completed over the summer and will be available for pick up in August. If you have any specific questions in regards to scheduling you may contact the Junior High Counselor, Celeste Wyatt via e-mail cwyatt@ccs.coloma.org

Making History
This thing we are all a part of, it's living history. Our children are all a part of this, and it will be talked about for generations to come. Schools are closed; sports are cancelled; people are quarantined...on a GLOBAL level. The best thing your children can do is to keep a journal over the next 5+ weeks. Handwritten, typed, in photographs or drawings...record events, day to day activities, fears and feelings. Let them make a video journal if that's the media they prefer. As parents/guardians, let them interview you, be a part of it. When it's all over, save it/store in a safe place for them. They will share this with their children and grandchildren. Help them create a tangible, primary source of their own history.
Let us know how we can help. Email your teachers, email me, email Ms. Nimtz...

SEL Activities
SEL activities are available on Ms. Nimtz’s school webpage for 4th & 5th grade students! Some of the activities include worksheets that review previous lessons from our Second Step SEL program, as well as a list of games, websites, and apps containing SEL and mindfulness activities. We encourage students and families to utilize these resources to continue practicing the SEL skills they’ve learned throughout the year.
