ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR ALL STUDENTS BEGINS

We are excited to announce that our online registration portal, ParentVue, is now open to enroll your child for the 2017-18 school year. If your child is returning to the Alpine Union School District for the 2017-18 you MUST complete the online registration process in order to be placed in classes for the 2017-2018 school year. Please complete your enrollment between April 25 - May 12. Simply click here to access the website and begin the process. If you need assistance please reach out to your school site.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF

Our team was very busy over the April break installing new technology across our campuses. New student chromebook carts were delivered to every school site. In addition, we have also updated staff laptops and increased our bandwidth so that our students will be better able to use mobile devices to personalize learning. This completes our first phase of technology upgrades. Our second phase will take place this summer with new wireless access points installed at all of our campuses.

We are very excited to provide mobile technology for our students and continue to implement our plan to improve AUSD and make it the Destination District of East County.

EAST COUNTY EDUCATION SCHOOLS ALLIANCE - AUSD IS ON CENTER STAGE AND IS THE DESTINATION DISTRICT OF EAST COUNTY

We are thrilled to share that Dr. Newman and the superintendents from east county have created the East County Education Schools Alliance. As an Alliance, we are committed to ensuring that the way teaching and learning occurs for our students evolves to ensure that each student reaches their potential. We are dedicated to improving opportunities for students and staff to collaborate and to build a community of learners that works together to bring passion, creativity and collaboration to schools.

We are thrilled to share that staff from the following districts joined us at JMMS on Monday, April 24 for a day of inspiration and training (Dehesa, Mountain Empire, Cajon Valley, Julian High, Julian Elementary, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, San Pasqual, and Poway). George Couros, an international education speaker, provided the keynote speech and staff from participating Districts engaged in a range of Google Suite trainings. Check out the pictures below of our staff learning and being inspired.

AUSD CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR - CHARLENE BROWN

We are thrilled to share that our 2016-17 Classified Employee of the Year is Charlene Brown, Secretary CELC.

Charlene Brown:Charlene is an incredible secretary at Creekside. She has worked for our District for over 13 years. During those years she served as a playground supervisor, librarian and school secretary. If you have met Charlene then you know she is a very warm and caring individual that creates a welcoming environment in the office. She is always thinking about others, which is evident through her community service dedication. Charlene was PTA president for two years at Shadow Hills and served on PTA for over ten years. In addition to PTA, Charlene led a Girl Scout troupe for over 11 years. She has been an incredibly positive influence on our student. Congratulations Charlene.

AUSD TEACHER OF THE YEAR - LYNETTE ELLIS

We are thrilled to share that our 2016-17 Teacher of the Year is Lynette Ellis, 3rd grade teacher at AES.

Lynette Ellis teaches 3rd grade at Alpine Elementary School. Her colleagues say that Lynette is a true leader, one that sees the genius in every kid, empowers them to be in charge of their own learning, and embraces the idea that change starts within yourself. She really takes the time to get to know her students and design lessons that fit the needs of her class. She is willing to take risks, but not without considering all points of view. Her head is exploding with creative ideas and she pushes her colleagues to think and grow. Congratulations Lynette.

STAFF ATTENDS APPLE TRAINING

As part of our continued work to improve our District, a team consisting of Dr. Newman, each school principal, and teachers attended a two day Executive Leadership Training at Apple Headquarters. The team focused on learning a strategic planning process on how to best integrate technology into curriculum and improve pedagogical practices. The knowledge gained at the training will be used to continue our work to personalize learning for our students and staff.

SPRING BREAK AND SUMMER CAMPS

AUSD has partnered with the Alpine Education Foundation to help expand the range of options available to our students during the April break and summer. During the April break, AEF launched a coding and robotics program for our students. AEF is currently working on a list of options for the summer focused on sports, robotics, arts, music and other programs. The program will be available for registration in mid May. Please check the AEF site for updates.

PEACHJAR IS WORKING AND SAVING MONEY!

As you know we have fully implemented PeachJar this year. The savings to date in switching over to using digital flyers has been extensive. To date, we have saved 292,832 sheets of paper, which equates to 35 trees and will result in a savings of $33,440.57 in printing costs this year.

ATTENDANCE RATES

We are moving towards the final sprint of the 2016-17 school year. We need your assistance to improve attendance rates. While the flue season has hit our schools hard at times we want to make sure that your child is in school learning each and every day. We appreciate your work and help in this process.

STATE TESTING BEGINS SOON

This is a reminder that state testing will begin soon! All 3rd - 8th graders will be participating in the state standardized tests. Testing will begin in early May. Here are some tips that will help your student have a successful testing experience:

  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Drink lots of water
  • Be on time
  • Get a good night’s sleep

The state has placed the practice tests online and have made them open to the public. It is a great idea to walk through the practice test with your child. Click here to access the practice test. Thanks for your continued support.

LCAP PARENT MEETING - MAY 3

California's Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) was enacted in 2013–14, and it replaced the previous school finance system which had been in existence for roughly 40 years. One of the goals of the LCFF is to simplify how state funding is provided to local educational agencies (LEAs). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) shows how these funds will improve student outcomes and performance for all students.

We have held over 20 several meetings across the District to capture the input of a variety of stakeholders, including, students, staff, parents and community members. On Wednesday, May 3 we will be holding a community forum at BOES from 6:00-7:00 to share our goals and actions steps to date and provide another opportunity to capture the thinking of our parents and community members. We hope you will join us and share your thoughts about the future of AUSD.
