What an awesome Saturday in Pembroke at the Annual Christmas Parade! I was so excited to see all our scholars and families out and about.....and this Northern Girl was dressed in boots and a scarf because it was COLD! Those are the moments that truly make Pembroke and our schoolhouse the special place it is!
We have nine more instructional days before we end the first semester! I can't believe how quickly the first semester has gone by but we have many, many tasks to complete before we can put a bow on the semester!
We will be taking MATH Map tests this week in all grade levels as well as taking our Short Map (Baby MAP tests) in WIN classes to track our progress monitoring. Scholars who are in READ 180 will also be taking an end of the semester SRI test.
All of this data helps us know where your child is at, how they are progressing, and how we may need to shift and tweak some of our instructional practices.
I will have information regarding progress reports/report cards in next week's #BeBCMS. We will plan on sending grades home the first week in January.
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! I have found some glitches with the REMIND and some parents have signed up for the one I use for teachers and staff. I have removed you from that REMIND, so please make sure you are still linked in to the one that is called BCMS Community. The link is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Using MAP data to goal CRUSH!
Winter Map Testing Window: November 29th - December 20th
The MAP Window is here! We will begin testing WINTER MAP. We Have begun testing. Our goal setting from WIN to track these next four weeks as we prepare to test in Reading, Language Usage, and Math. I can't wait to see how much we have grown! If you would like to look at your child's MAP reports and have us discuss it with you, please email me! MAP reports give us lots of great information about the domains of learning and where we can enrich and remediate our scholars.
Mr. Scott, Mr. Wright, and myself will be meeting with each scholar beginning 11/27 to talk to them about their GMAS reports, Lexile (reading score), and MAP reports. We will also begin goal setting with each scholar. It is so critical that our scholars KNOW where they are academically so they can set an achievable goal and work to get there! We are very excited about empowering them with this data and knowledge!
Notes from Ms. Raeburn
Cell Phones - Cell Phones- Everywhere!
I am an advocate for cell phones and teaching our scholars how to use them appropriately. I have three middle and high schoolers and I want them to have their phones. However, we are seeing issues all across the schoolhouse regarding cell phones. Please remind your children, cell phones are not for videoing or snap chatting. They are also only to be out at lunch times or in classes when teachers have allowed usage. Headphones also fall under that same rule. We will be discussing with our Leadership team if we should move toward banning cell phones from our schoolhouse. We must keep our focus on the learning and if cell phones become a distraction, then we need to take action. Read the great blog below that talks about ways we may begin to implement a distractions policy in our schoolhouse. It makes good sense!
As we prepare to finish the semester, I am ExExExCited to roll out our Community "You Make A Difference" form! If there is a grown-up at BCMS who has made a significant difference in your child's life and/or middle school experience, I want to know about it! Pleae take a few minutes to share that on the form. All of our staff who are nominated will be recognized at our end of the semester breakfast!
We truly have ELITE teachers at BCMS! There is no profession like teaching! The impact, influence, and change that we have in the schoolhouse and classrooms everyday is life changing! I am proud to work along side such dynamic and dedicated professionals who truly are here to grow scholars!
The form is below! Please take a minute to fill it out and recognize an adult who has positively impacted your child!
As a reminder, we will be meeting with all scholars to talk about data points. If your child does not get a form before break, he/she will get one the first week back. The form is linked below.
