Scholarly News

Room 314

August 19, 2013

We had a great first week. Each of the scholars created a wonderful digital collage about themselves. I emailed each of you a copy and hopefully you were able to look at it. It is one example of the types of assignments that your children will be creating this year. Here are the weekly highlights. Don't forget to sign up for Remind101. Be sure to sign up for "General" and your child's specific grade level.

5th Grade Wilson Reading

We will start out the week finishing a story that we read on Friday about how Silly Putty was created. On Tuesday I will do an assessment on what the students remember from last year to determine where to start. On Wednesday we will read a story called "Little Free Library." On Thursday we will go over vocabulary words in a story from Six Way Paragraphs called "King of Beasts." The students will read the passage for homework and on Friday they will discuss their answers in a group.

This is the iPad version of Read Naturally. We will use this throughout the year, as well as Read Naturally. On Wednesday we will read a story called "Little Free Library." On Thursday we will go over vocabulary words in a story from Six Way Paragraphs called "King of Beasts." 6th Grade Reading

We will start out the week finishing a story that we read on Friday about how Silly Putty was created. We will spend the rest of the week reading and discussing chapters from Island of the Blue Dolphins. They started this novel in Mr. Brown's class. By Tuesday, the students should have read chapters 6-7. Every night, the students will need to re-read what we have read in class. If your child is absent, please make sure that he/she keeps up with the chapters.

4th Grade Reading

On Monday and Tuesday we will work on what main idea is and how to find the main idea in a story. On Wednesday we will read a story called "Little Free Library." On Thursday and Friday we will do Read Naturally.

3rd and 4th Grade Math

This week we will begin our unit on place value. We will start out with learning vocabulary words: digit, place, value, expanded form and standard form. On Friday we will learn a new math game. Be sure to return last week's game on Friday.

6th Grade Math

Last week we reviewed multiplication. This week we will work on division. Ask your students how to do Division Aerobics. Make sure that your child is checking Mrs. Diana's website everyday for homework.
