First Day of School Reminders:
Scholars should show up to school wearing their uniforms beginning day one. The scholars may wear any color polo shirt or shirt with a collar. The bottoms may be navy, khaki, or black!
Arrival:
Door 2 opens at 7:50 am. All scholars must enter through door 2 (Off of Greer Ave. where the playground is located) until 8:05 am. After 8:05 am, scholars may enter through the front entrance on Cora Ave.
Dismissal:
Dismissal begins promptly at 2:50 pm. For Pre-K thru 2nd grade pick-up, you may park in front of the building off on Cora Ave. For 3rd thru 6th Grade pick-up, you may park on Greer Ave. where door 2 is located. If you have scholars who fall in multiple grade levels, you may park on Cora Ave. Our team will be outside to assist! On the first day, you will receive a car tag to use moving forward for a smoother process.
Paperwork:
Scholars will come home with a packet of important information. Please complete the requested documents so that we may best serve your scholar(s) this year. Send it back to school with them on Tuesday, August 24th.
Visitors:
Unfortunately, there are no visitors permitted in the building aside from coming to the main office. This is out of safety for all of our scholars. We know this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience as we navigate safety during the pandemic.
Technology
If you have not received your device for the 2021-2022 school year, please call the main office to set up an appointment to pick it up.
High Expectations for Scholars
We know that you will join us in this endeavor, because they are your babies--and you want them to thrive socially, emotionally, academically, and mentally!
That being said--we are asking our families to commit to a couple of items:
1. Attendance. Your scholar's attendance is one of the primary factors of their success. If they are at school, we can support them in growing. It is expected that each scholar is here at least 90% of the time, and we need you to help us with this. We know that sometimes there are unexpected things that happen that prevent your scholar from getting to school; however, our push is that we can work together to make sure they are here daily!
*Note: If your scholar is showing Covid symptoms or is truly sick--we do expect him or her to stay home to protect everyone else. These sick days are built in to the yearly calendar--and that is why our goal is 90%.
Our commitment is to follow-up with you any time that a scholar is absent to see how they are doing! Each family will have a Hickey Elementary staff member assigned to them to follow-up in the event of an absence. This communication is just to check-in and see how we can support! They may call or text you based on your preference; however, it is important that you respond so that we can make arrangements for any missed work or figure out how to get your scholar to school.
2. Nightly Reading. We ask that our families carve out time with scholars to read together! We know that when scholars practice their reading skills, then they grow! Our teachers will be sending home weekly newsletters to support your scholar's development in reading. Just 20 minutes of reading a night will support reading growth!
