Gomez Heritage Newsletter

April 2021

Dear Gomez Heritage Families,

When we think about the academic adversity the pandemic has caused, the points below describe why it is important for students to be in school every day.

Why Attendance Matters...

  • Missing 10% of Pre-Kindergarten can make it harder to develop early reading skills
  • Poor attendance makes it harder to prepare for Kindergarten and First Grade
  • Poor attendance habits are hard to break
  • Early school success goes hand and hand with good attendance
  • Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher must slow down learning to help students catch up
  • By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of the three indicators that a student may drop out
  • Good attendance promotes social and emotional connectedness to peers, teachers, and extracurricular activities; sense of belonging
  • Attendance is an important life skill --- graduation, college/trade and job

Thank you for your continued support of Gomez Heritage Elementary.

Sincerely,

Gomez Heritage Staff

It is important that students are present during the entire assessment window. Please be aware of these dates when scheduling appointments, early check-outs, trips, etc. Listed below are a few suggestions that will help all students be at their best when testing:

• Make sure your student arrives to school on time each morning and is present every day.

Please contact your student's teacher if you have any questions.
