First UMC Sealy Digest

A look at happenings at First United Methodist Church Sealy

This Sunday, Dec. 14: 3rd Sunday of Advent -- NO 8 am service

The four weeks of Advent are a time to slow down in a season often characterized by busyness and activity. If we're not careful, our 'busyness' can cause us to lose sight of the real story of Christmas. This first Sunday in Advent reminds us that the story is not about our shopping success or activities, but about God stepping down into our world to know us, love us and to save us. We've prepared several Advent worship opportunities for you and your family, including bible studies and Sunday evening worship!

This Sunday is our Christmas Musical entitled 'Christmas is Coming.' You won't want to miss this special service of singing and praise! The musical rehearsal is Saturday at 9 am. Performers: make every effort to attend rehearsal. Also please be at church at 9 am Sunday morning before the musical starts.

Just as the first wrapped gift beneath the Christmas tree marks the new season, so the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day signaled that God’s hope and salvation and redemption plan had come into the world. In Jesus, God gift-wrapped himself in human flesh and was born in a stable so he could come and live among us and offer us life and salvation that we could never gain on our own.
