Hello Lyndhurst Families,

Our students are settling in to their classes, connecting with old friends and making new ones. It is wonderful getting to know this close-knit community. Thank you for the warm welcome and all you do to support your child.

Placement in Classes for the Coming Year

Lyndhurst classroom teachers, learning support teachers, education assistants, support staff and the principal and vice principal put a great deal of thought into organizing classes that provide nurturing, productive learning environments. A number of criteria are considered such as: academic needs, maturity, attitude, behaviour, boys and girls, friendships, adult support time needed, and leadership qualities. With these guidelines in mind, children are grouped into classes. To answer a question many parents have asked me about split classes, we do not place a group of 'struggling' students at the top of a split. We strive for balanced classes at every grade level. Please contact me if you would like any more information.

Online Payment of School Fees

We are pleased to offer parents the option of paying school fees online. You can make payment for planners, field trips, Young People's Concerts, etc. directly to your child’s account. Imagine how great it would be not to have to search for the exact change to pay for your child’s activities!! You can pay for items through SchoolCash online using your credit card or by inputting your bank account information. Also, you will receive emails when new items are placed on School Cash and you will always have a record of what you have paid for. Please go to our school website at for directions on how to sign up for the SchoolCash program. Press the large blue SchoolCash button on our website.

School Routines:

School Hours

8:50 a.m. – bell to enter the school

8:55 a.m. – instruction begins

3:00 p.m. – students are dismissed

Student Absence

For your child’s safety and security, parents are asked to call the school and leave a message to let us know if a student will be absent or late (604-296-9020).

Late to School or Leaving School Early

It is important that your child arrives to school on time. Students miss important instruction at the beginning of the day and interrupt the learning of others if they arrive late. If your child does arrive later than 9:00 am, he/she needs to report to the office to ‘sign in’. This informs the secretary that your child is safe at school. Similarly, a student leaving school early, either with a parent or with parent permission needs to report to the office to ‘sign out’.

Parents Visiting the School

If you need to see your child for any reason or wish to leave a message for your child or the teacher during school hours, please report to the office. If you are helping or volunteering in a classroom, you need to sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s badge. This ensures that students and staff know you are a visitor which helps everyone to feel safe.

Terry Fox Run - our Grade 6/7 Leadership group is currently fundraising through "Toonies for Terry" to raise money for cancer research. Please send any donations to school with your child. The run will be on Thursday, Sept. 27 starting with an assembly in the gym at 2:00. Families are welcome to join us for the run around our school.

Orange shirt day has been happening for the past 6 years in Canada. This day (Sept. 30) is designed to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. We will recognize this day on Sept. 27 at Lyndhurst.

I am working to make our webpage your place to go to find the information you need. On our homepage you will find a section called Upcoming Events. Here you will see the next five events on our school calendar. Under this is a button called View Calendar . If you click that button in will take you to the current month's calendar. You can then click through each month of the school year. I have put all events on our school calendar until June 2019. This includes Pro-D days, early dismissals, Hot Lunch days, Field Trips, Christmas Concert, etc. As new items are booked I will be adding them here. We will also send home a paper calendar for the next month on the last week of the previous month. However, sometimes things change so it is always best to double check the online calendar for the most current information. (See Pictures below). If you click on the current day it will display what is typed there. (Remember the calendar you see below this message is a only a Picture of the Calendar so don't click on that one, follow the instructions above to get to the actual online calendar).

If you have any further suggestions about how I can improve communication to our families please email me at

Thank You!
