A message from Ms. Marisa...

Hello Lakeland students, faculty and staff! My name is Marisa McTernan, and for most of you, I am brand new face in the building! For the rest of the 2015-2016 school year, I will be an intern for the school guidance department in the high school. Currently, I am a school counseling graduate student and graduate assistant at The University of Scranton. I also earned my bachelor’s degree at The University of Scranton in Counseling and Human Services before moving onto graduate school. My internship experience at Lakeland High School is my final step before I complete my masters’ program in May. I am looking forward to getting to know and working with all of you, and am excited to be part of the TRIBE here at Lakeland!

What Do Interns Do?

The counseling intern is a master's level student, under the supervision of Mrs. Valonis, MS, NCC, who has begun her internship experience and has been placed here at Lakeland Jr/Sr High to fulfill one of her last requirements before certification. Ms. Marisa has already completed a practicum requirement at Valley View High School and will be taking on all roles throughout the spring that a school counselor typically does to prepare for her next step!

Ms. Marisa is here to help address the academic, personal/social, and career preparation needs of our students! She will be meeting individually with students, running classroom guidance lessons, assisting with the already implemented guidance events (i.e.: College & Career Fair), in addition to all the other roles and responsibilities of a high school counselor!

Stop by Mrs. Valonis' office to see Ms. Marisa and introduce yourself; welcome her to the TRIBE; and show her how great it is to be a Lakeland Chief!

Any questions, concerns, or comments should be directed to Mrs. Valonis
