A Message from Principal Nixon--Week of March 1, 2021
Dear Northwoods Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It's certainly beginning to feel like springtime and spring break will be here before we know it! Please take a few minutes to read through the updates and reminders below.
Respectfully,
Joe Nixon
Principal
Town of Cary Honor-a-Teacher Award Program
Excellence in teaching – we know it when we see it. It can be the teacher who spends extra time with the students who need it most, or the teacher who is creative enough to inspire a real love of learning in a student. Perhaps it’s a teacher who cares enough to be involved with their students beyond the classroom. Whatever their methods, certain teachers make a real impact on students and their learning abilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted the great importance of the role that teacher's play in our society.
We would like to recognize one such teacher and we need your help. The Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities. One of the most critical needs of Wake County schools is that of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers. With the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Honor a Teacher Program we hope to help our school system in meeting that challenge.
Building on the success of the Discovery Award first sponsored by the Ashworth family in 1991, followed by the Clara Knoll Award in 2000 by Barry and DJ Mitsch, the Cary Chamber has secured sponsors to develop a teaching awards program for all schools in the Cary Area.
We are asking our community to nominate teachers for this award. Included with your nomination, please describe why you feel this particular teacher deserves this award. Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, March 26th at 5:00pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee.
To nominate a deserving teacher, please use this form: https://forms.gle/9SfP5gzrvijqMVzW8
If you have any questions, please email Perry Price, Director of Education & Government Relations, at pprice@carychamber.com.

We have several activities planned, including a Spirit Week, Family Reading Night, scavenger hunt, and much more. There will be chances to win prizes and, if we meet our sales goal, Mr. Nixon will get sprayed with silly string! We hope that you join in the fun.
Important: Changes to Bus Routes:
To improve efficiency as well as to expedite the arrival/dismissal process, the WCPSS Transportation Office recently made changes to our bus routes. These changes should not impact your child's assigned bus stop. The Transportation Office is in the process of notifying families and we have prepared new bus tags for students impacted by these changes. The new bus routes have been updated on the WCPSS Transportation site and are also available to view on the Northwoods school website at https://www.wcpss.net/Page/29230.
