3rd Years Ring Ceremony 12/14!
An exciting tradition continues on Thursday, December 14th, at 6:30pm with our class of 2019 Ring Ceremony! The Ring Ceremony offers our learners a memorable evening of this special milestone. Parents will have an active role in this event as you or a mentor will be invited to present your child with the senior ring on stage. Additionally, we will share an inspirational message from you while on stage with your child. The message will be captured in our invitation RSVPs with the link below. Jostens team representatives will bring the rings you ordered to our ceremony. If you did not order a ring, we will have a ring box for you in which you may place a ring you’ve purchased from another source or a family heirloom ring if you choose. We will have a reception after the event with an opportunity to take pictures and celebrate with other Titans, too!
6:00 pm Arrival: Learners line up for the entry procession and parents who are bringing a ring to the ceremony give the ring to Jostens to be placed in a box.

Your 10th grade learner has begun learning experiences for the third project of the year called Beneath the Surface. During the course of this project, learners will work in teams to answer the driving question “How do relationships impact progress?” Learners will design a submarine prototype that will be used to locate an unidentified but important object that is located beneath the surface of the sea. Team members will also participate in a Model United Nations, which will allow the learners to take on the role of UN delegates to work together to solve a problem through the use of parliamentary procedure. Project presentations will include a submarine competition followed by a Model United Nations.
Here is what you can expect during this project for each of the courses:
Algebra- Learners will understand how to use functions and matrices and their inverses to transform information into new outputs and then transform them back
Geometry- Learners will be able to understand how mathematical processes, such as distance, vectors and trigonometry, are used in navigation.
English/Debate- Learners will read and analyze the Creative Non Fiction story Persepolis. Learners will identify the structure and determining the meaning of poetry. In debate learners will have a role on a committee as part of the United Nations. They will present information and develop arguments to represent their assigned countries needs.
Art-Learners will investigate the power of visual messages as they explore the impact of photography in communicating culture and ideas. Learners will design pinhole cameras, experiment with darkroom developing, and create a digital photojournalism story.
Tech-Cyber-Learners will continue to develop their web design skills, explore the needs and effects of cyber-security. Learners will create a PSA to further their visual messaging techniques.
Engineering- Learners will be working through the engineering design process through a submersible build.
Biology- Learners will be able to understand how the “micro” world impacts “macro” systems. Learners will understand that biological systems and processes, such as cellular functioning, production of proteins, as well as the human immune response, lead to homeostatic conditions.
WH- Learners will be able to understand & analyze how technology and innovation impacts how and why wars are fought, why nations go to war, how power is managed, and how national identities are formed and change. We will be examining power structures in Old Kingdom Egypt, the Classical Greco-Roman World, Mesoamerica, the impact of technology and innovation on power, as well as the French and Industrial Revolutions, and both World Wars.
LOTE-Learners will continue building interpretive (reading and listening), presentational (writing and speaking), and interpersonal communication skills answering the project's driving question “How do relationships impact progress?” and participating in the project emphasis “How does the micro world influence the macro system?”
Beneath the Surface Important Project Dates:
United Nations First General Assembly - Dec. 20th
Submarine Competition Rowlinson Natatorium - Feb 1st
United Nations General Assembly Model - Feb 2nd
Questions for the dinner table:
How can I connect something?
How do I create a model in CAD?
How does the “micro” world influence the “macro” system?
How are structure and function related in living things?
How can I protect digital privacy?
What are the elements of progress?
How does policy develop through discourse and debate?
What factors influence policy?
How has power evolved?
How is power managed?
How has technology affected power balances throughout history?
How can I communicate a visual message?
How can I have an impact on others through a visual medium?
Sincerely,
The 2nd Year Facilitator Team
