From Mr. Clemente

Dear Winter Park Band families,

Congratulations again to the Class of 2022! We had such a great evening for Friday's Senior Night football game, and it was great to see our students and their families share in celebration. The Les Miserables show at halftime was definitely the strongest of the season so far, and I'm excited to get back to work on Tuesday to make the show even better for our upcoming final 3 performances!

Among everything else going on in the world of the Band program last week, a group of 22 Band students, also joined by colleagues from the Orchestra, rehearsed and put on 4 performances as the Pit Orchestra of the WPHS Theatre Department's production of Damn Yankees. These students truly went above and beyond, and then some, so bring this production to life. Among their other responsibilities in Band and in their academic and social lives, they were able to put together a performance of a 2-hour show that called for multiple instrument doublings and stylistic challenges, and they have come through as better musicians because of it! The Pit Orchestra included: Shay Stulman (flute/piccolo), Kaia Leavitt, (alto sax and clarinet), Emily Strickland (flute), Danny Colon (alto sax and clarinet), Colin Anderson (clarinet), Carter Hetz (tenor sax), Jason Stephenson (tenor sax, clarinet, and bass clarinet), Mac Collins (baritone sax, clarinet, and bass clarinet), Cole Spencer (horn), Jenna Osborne (horn), Dylan O'Shea (trumpet), Bronson Sadowski (trumpet), Brody Mackinnon (trumpet), Kang Muscatello (trombone), Charlie Davey (trombone), Benjamin Visconti (trombone), Jacob Scanlon (trombone), Andrew Yuska (piano), Sofiya Boiardman (guitar), Charlie Storch (bass), Justin Hill (percussion), and Ian Villalba (percussion).

Recently, a number of our Band students were nominated for honor band festivals held annually at USF and FSU. Please join me in congratulating the following students for being invited to participate:

Tri-State Festival - FSU

  • Kaia Leavitt, alto saxophone

Festival of Winds - USF

  • Charlotte Batten, alto saxophone
  • Henry Fu, clarinet
  • Kang Muscatello, trombone
  • Zachary Rediske, clarinet

This week is another 4-day week for students, and another Thursday night football game. The schedule for this Thursday is the same as our previous Thursday evening game. Students will have a brief rehearsal immediately after school on Thursday at D-Lot. Dinner will be provided for all students, again from Antonella's. If any student is unable to eat the dinner or would prefer other food, they must provide their own meal in between rehearsal and getting in uniform for the game.

We are now in the home stretch of the marching band portion of the school year with only two weeks left for our Les Miserables show! As a reminder, Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 6 has been moved to University HS. Our performance time has also been adjusted as a result of the move, and the SOTW will now be performing at 3:20 PM. The itinerary has been adjusted on the Band website - please review it.

Lastly, our next concert is also approaching. On Wednesday, November 10 we will be welcoming the bands from Audubon Park School, Glenridge MS, and Maitland MS to join us for our annual Fall Festival of Bands. This is such a special night each year, and an opportunity to celebrate our grade 6 - 12 Winter Park Band community! In addition to the middle school bands' performances, our Wind Symphony will perform a brief program and the "Sound of the Wildcats" Marching Band will conclude the evening with an indoor standstill performance of our Les Miserables show. We'll see you there!

Let's make it a great 4-day week! I look forward to seeing the costumes and decorations at Tuesday's "Trunk 'r Treat!"

Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Natalie Storch

Week of October 24, 2021

Hi everyone. Congratulations to all of the seniors and their families/loved ones! What a fun night honoring them. The whole band sounded and looked wonderful. Thank you to all of the parents who helped make buttons, distribute items at the game, figure out sign placement, etc.

Congratulations also to all of the band and orchestra students (and Mr. Clemente) for providing beautiful music for the theater production of Damn Yankees! I know I am biased, but the live music really did make the show a more wonderful experience (the cast and crew did an amazing job as well)! It was a lot of rehearsal time during an otherwise-busy week, but your contributions made such an impact!

This week, Trunk 'r Treat is Tuesday, so if you are participating (providing candy to the band), please be in D lot ready for the band (you are welcome to decorate your vehicles) than 8:00 p.m. Please feel free to get creative! Decorations in past years have been so fun!

Coming up, more help is needed for chaperones for the remaining games and MPA, so please plan to help if you can. Just check the Cut Time calendar for availability.

We only have 2 more games left—both away, and at the end of our season, we would like to show our appreciation for the bus drivers who have safely transported our students to and from every game. If you’d like to contribute to that effort (probably cash appreciation or grocery gift card), Amanda Schaefer will coordinate this effort-(Thank you, Amanda!), so please Venmo Amanda at @Amanda-Schaefer-943, and please indicate it is for the bus driver appreciation fund).

Marching Band Uniform Washing Help Needed!

MPA prep help needed:

We are looking for 2-3 more volunteers to take home uniforms after the THURS game Oct 28th and bring them back for an Ironing Party on TUES Nov 2nd during practice (you are welcome to iron at home on your own schedule and just drop them off Tuesday).

We will be sending home around 10 uniforms to wash with instructions and detergent. All you need is a machine, water and a little time.

Please let me know if you can help the band look amazing for MPAs!

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement

We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.

Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.

In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.

Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:

  • Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
  • Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
  • Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
  • Replace wheel bearings on front axle
  • Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
  • Replacing or repairing the small trailer
  • And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.

Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.

Please contact Keith Gavin at for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.

We will be also seeking volunteers to help at a Trailer Work- Days throughout the month of January. We will be repairing minor body damage, painting the trailer and removing the old logos. Please contact Keith Gavin @ if you can assist.

Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.

Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!

By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at
