Amphibians Definition/Characteristics
Amphibians are ectothermic, tetra pod vertebrates of the class Amphibia. Modern Amphibians are all Lissamphibia.
HOW TO BE AN AMPHIBIAN
Amphibians are animals that live part of their lives in water and part on land. They usually have soft, moist skin that is protected by a slippery layer of mucus. They also tend to live in moist places or near water to keep their bodies from drying out. There are three main groups of amphibians: caecilians; salamanders, newts, and mudpuppies; and frogs and toads.
3 ANIMALS FROM THE AMPHIBIAN GROUP
spotted salamander
The spotted salamander is about 15–25 cm long. They are stout, like most mole salamanders, and have wide snouts. The spotted salamander's main color is black, but can sometimes be a blueish-black, dark grey, dark green, or even dark brown. Two uneven rows of yellowish-orange spots run from the top of the head (near the eyes) to the tip of the tail. Interestingly, the spotted salamander's spots near the top of its head are more orange, while the spots on the rest of its body are more yellow. The underside of the spotted salamander is slate gray and pink.
Strawberry Poison Dart Frog
The strawberry poison frog is a species of small poison frog found in Central America. It is common throughout its range, which extends from eastern central Nicaragua through Costa Rica and northwestern Panama.
Arabian Frog
The Arabian toad has a rounded head and snout, prominent eyes and small tympanic membranes. Its back is covered with small warts and it varies in color, being grey, tan, brown or green, often with golden speckles. The male is generally smaller than the female. The long croak of the male sounds like a rusty door hinge
