Mountain Lion Minute

Week of April 12th

Hello Montgomery Families,

As we continue to move forward in 2021, we are also excited to welcome back more students to in-person learning. This move comes with careful planning and consideration as we look to transition students back to the school environment. We are paying close attention to our capacity to ensure that students who want to return are in a classroom where everyone can continue to safely socially distance (between 3 and 6 feet) to the greatest extent possible.

If your child is still enrolled in either the hybrid learning model or 100% virtual, but you would like to explore a different option, please reach out to me. I will be able to notify you of the possibility of changing your child's learning model.

PSSA Letter

Dear Montgomery Families,

Now that spring break is over, we are entering the final phase of a school year that has seen both challenges (closures, COVID cases, etc.) and triumphs (finally offering five days of instruction for those who choose!). This time of year brings with it standardized testing in the form of PSSA. The state has NOT waived the requirement for school districts to administer these tests, but instead has extended the deadline for administration of the tests into the fall.

The North Penn School District has decided that tests will be administered this spring, and we will not wait until September. We feel it is extremely important to understand now how our students are performing, learning and moving forward in the curriculum. The standardized tests are just one way of ascertaining this, but an extremely important measure.

Consequently, though the state is being more lenient with participation rate requirements, we are encouraging all of our PSSA eligible students to do their best on these assessments. Understanding where each student is academically now will help us to better prepare for the 2021-2022 school year.

At the elementary level, students in Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in Grade 4 will be assessed in Science as well. PSSA testing will occur between the dates of May 3-28 for all students who are attending 5 days in person, hybrid, and virtual.

As always and in accordance with Chapter 4, you may choose to opt your child out of standardized testing for religious reasons and should contact me if you wish to pursue this option. Students who attend school 100% virtually are also encouraged to participate in these important assessments as well. Virtual students would need to participate in the assessments at school. The PSSA assessments cannot be taken at home.

Note to 100% virtual families: Please complete the PSSA Google form HERE to indicate if you would like to have the 100% virtual child participate in the PSSA assessment at school.

A detailed schedule will be shared with families once the information about participating in the assessment has been returned from our virtual families. Please note that hybrid student participate in the assessments will occur on the days they attend school in person.

Sincerely,

Mr. TJ Seidenberger

Principal
