President's Message
Hello Hiteon Families!
We are so excited to announce that If all goes as it has been, Fun Run will be happening in person this year! We are looking forward to seeing all of our little runners out there but need lots of help in planning this huge event. See below for ways you can pitch in to make our biggest fundraiser of the year a success.
We are now a full month into 2022 and starting to look ahead to filling our board for next year. Being on the board is a fun way to stay in touch with what is happening "behind the scenes" at Hiteon and make a positive impact on your child's school experience. Look for info further down in the newsletter or contact any of the current Board Members with questions! Find a friend and Co-Chair – it makes it twice as fun!
Hope you all had a wonderful 4-day weekend. Enjoy that sunshine when we can get it!
Warmest wishes,
Kristin Glover, Hiteon PTC President
Fun Run is Back!
Hiteon McTeacher's Night: Fundraiser to support our 5th grade Hiteon Hawks
Join us in fundraising for our 5th graders to support their end-of-year activities! All funds will be donated to the 5th grade class.
McTeacher's night is going to look a little different this year - teachers will not be selling cookies this year, but you have plenty of options on ways to order. You can use the McDonalds app, drive-thru, McDelivery partners, and order in store for take-out. Dine-in is discouraged at this time to reduce crowds due to COVID social distancing.
20% of all sales from 5pm-8pm will be donated back to Hiteon PTC in support of our 5th grade students, no flyer is required!
Any questions please reach out to Nancy Henry at diningfordollars@hiteonptc.org

We want you on the board!
Our Hiteon Parent Teacher Club (PTC) is looking for new board members! We have several dedicated members who have stayed on longer than usual due to the pandemic, but they are now at the end of their term limits and it is time for some new people to take over. Our PTC funds provide enrichment programs, community events such as Family Dance and Bingo Night, and funds for teacher and staff grant requests (covering things like technology, maker space, PE equipment and music instruments).
The PTC needs dedicated leaders and active parents to keep these programs running. We are currently recruiting for President and Vice President 1 (Fundraising) for the 2022-2023 school year. We also have openings for co-chairs for all of our positions. More hands make light work!
You can nominate yourself or a friend. Interested parties will be voted in at the May general membership meeting. For more information on what the positions involve, email president@hiteonptc.org.
Let's help make Hiteon Elementary School be the best it can be!
Diversity and Inclusion Committee
During Martin Luther King Day of Service, our Hiteon Hawks donated items to Blanchet House. With these items, 28 care kits were made to help those who experience homelessness. Thank you for showing compassion and kindness to others, Hawks!
Since the first Black History Month was designated in 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.
This year’s theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” explores "the legacy of not only Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, but also other ways of knowing (e.g. birthworkers, doulas, midwives, naturopaths, herbalists, etc.)… and activities, rituals and initiatives that Black communities have done to be well." Learn more by clicking through the online exhibit at the National Museum of African American History. If your student is interested in science or medicine, they will find this exhibit fascinating!
Other great ways to investigate and celebrate African American history this month:
Beaverton City Library is running virtual events on Mondays in February: On Feb. 14th, we’ll read a book about Florence Joyner, explore her history, and learn some pre- and post-running stretches. On Mon Feb. 28th, we’ll read and learn about Bessie Coleman and create our own airplanes and helicopters! ONLINE 4–4:45, Grades K-5, registration required.
View some gorgeous art virtually at the California African American Museum.
Listen to prominent Black Portland musicians, including Mel Brown, Darrell Grant, and the incomparable former Portlander Esperanza Spalding.
Watch OPB’s documentary on Oregon’s Black Pioneers on YouTube.
Check out the movie Hidden Figures, or Alvin Ailey’s Ballet Revelations with your older students.
And of course, reading lists for kids from WCCLS libraries.
We would love for a parent or guardian to help write these featured celebrations each month. Interested? Please contact the Diversity & Inclusion Committee to offer your assistance or join us on March 9th at 6:30PM on Zoom. The meeting information will be posted on the Hiteon PTC website and Facebook page.
