School Newsletter Term 1, Week 6
Friday 10th March 2023
Kia ora West End Whānau,
We have enjoyed a great week of learning here at Te Kura o Urumutu.
Whānau Hui
Whānau Hui - “Cuppa and Korero” on Thursday afternoon was a great way to get underway and connect with whānau about the exciting developments for Māori learning at our kura. Thank you to whaea Karen
Lockdown Practice
Lockdown practice was held on Tuesday 7 March with Harrison Tew supporting our practice around our emergency procedures and planning. This was a fantastic exercise for all staff and children involved. Thank you for you support of this work to help us make West End School the best place it can be for our tamariki.
Red Star Dance
Dean Mckerras from Red Start Dance studio was at school this week. Dean worked with a group of year 4-6 children who had volunteered. This was a wonderful experience for those involved. We look forward to having Dean back to provide further dance opportunities. This session was a wonderful addition to the arts programme that Mr. Minchin has been running across the school this year. Mr. Minchin spends time with the children exploring singing, dancing, and drama learning. The children are really enjoying the opportunity to grow their Mana Aotūroa during this time.
NZEI - Teacher and Principal Strike Thursday Week 8 (16/3/23)
As you will no doubt have heard, there is a NZEI Teachers and Principals strike scheduled for Thursday 16th March. The West End School Board has taken the decision to close school on this day as the vast majority of our staff will be on strike. Please ensure that you have this day marked in your calendar. Thank you for your support of our wonderful teachers and their mahi.
West End Board Rolling Consultation
As part of living our school value of Kotahitanga, the West End School Board runs regular (termly) rolling consultation meetings with our community. In these meetings the board collects voice from our West End Whānau about our strategic goals and aims for the school. This voice is then included in discussions and considerations are made for strategic planning for the future of our awesome school. This term we are running a meeting on Monday 20 March at 6pm at 5 Ruha St. Please click on the link to RSVP for this meeting.
I am very pleased with the learning and progress that we are seeing from children across the school especially as we are still so early in the year.
Have a safe and happy weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday.
