Grades
The report card is a snapshot of where your child is performing in relation to their grade and the grade level standards they are tested on. Eliminated from that report card grade today compared to what we were graded on are extra credit assignments, homework, group projects, etc. You should see students meeting benchmarks on school assessments and reported out on the report card who also are meeting grade level expectations on other assessments such as STAR and PARCC. Hard work, focus in class, practicing class work, getting support from a staff member are all contributing factors and can't be underestimated.
If the report card isn't revealing growth, look at the STAR Parent Reports. Feel free to e-mail me and ask for a Test Record so that you can see growth over time.
As much as grading has changed in schools, we also need mindsets to change. Hard work is needed more than ever before in schools because the level of work asked of children is the highest it has ever been.
