The Juliano Journal

Week of November 9-13

Dear Families,

Hello! The students and I had so much fun having Pajama Day on Tuesday. They especially liked having the opportunity to find a spot in the room where they could lay down with their pillows and read. The students will be able to wear their pajamas again next week as we are having a school-wide Pajama Day on November 20th! This is to celebrate reaching our fundraising goal.

We all enjoyed the Veterans Day assembly that was held on Wednesday afternoon. This was the perfect opportunity for all of us to honor those men and women who have served in the armed forces. It was such a heartwarming tribute.

I am very excited to share with you that our third grade students will be going on a field trip on December 4th. We will be taking a tour of the Crystal Lake City Hall. Please look for a permission slip to come home next week.

District 47 schools are participating in the Community Harvest Food Drive for the local food pantry. The drive runs until November 20. Please drop off any of the following donation items in our school office if you would like to participate: baking mixes/supplies, canned beans, canned milk, canned pasta/meals, canned chili, dinner helpers, dry pasta, rice, macaroni & cheese, paper goods, salad dressing, ramen noodles. Thank you for your support.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Juliano

Curriculum

Language Arts

This week we read a story called Aero and Officer Mike. This is an informational text about a police officer and his dog. The students really liked this story! Today we watched a video that showed how police dogs are trained. This video was actually filmed in McHenry. Next week the students will be comparing and contrasting the information presented in these two sources.

Our reading groups have all finished reading texts about animals. Each student is now writing an informational essay about the animal that he/she read about. When they finish composing the essay. they will be typing these on iPads.

Math

We continue to focus on multiplication and division. This week the students were introduced to the factor of 3. Please support your child by encouraging him/her to practice memorizing the facts we have covered each day for a minimum of 10 minutes. Be sure to ask your child about the multiplication games that we played today!

Social Studies

We spent our social studies time this week doing activities revolving around Veterans Day. Next week we will begin chapter 10 in our social studies textbook. This chapter discusses the different public services that are found in a community. This information will help the students prepare for our upcoming trip to City Hall.
