A Message from Dr. Thompson
As we enter the New Year 2019, I have some very exciting news to share! Northbrook Middle School students and staff have, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER! Earned recognition from Governor Nathan Deal’s Office of Student Achievement. We earned a Platinum Award in the Greatest Gains category for exhibiting high growth in student achievement. This means that our academic growth over the last three years has been in the top 5% of all schools in the state!
This news comes at a great time as our students and teachers have been working extremely hard. This acknowledgement from the state is a testament to this tiresome work and we are extremely proud. Our students continue to make academic gains across the board!
The greatest Gains Award has four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze. Schools must meet the following criteria to be determined Platinum winners.
- Place in the 99th percentile or higher statewide in the average CCRPI Progress Score over the last three years:
- Remain in the same CCRPI Single Score range over the last three years
- Be excluded from GOSA's Turnaround Eligible Schools List and GaDOE's Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI)/Targeted Support and Improvement”.

In October, the Social Studies department provided the opportunity for students across the district to participate in a writing contest to celebrate the bicentennial of Gwinnett County. Through the many essays that were written, we overwhelming saw the love our students have for our community. The entries focused on the rich history, abundant entertainment options, helpful people, and incredible education system. All of these essays truly encapsulate the many wonderful attributes that contribute to Gwinnett being a great place to live. Although, the choices were tough, we are proud to announce the winners at this time. Each winning student will be invited to Gwinnett County School Board meeting on Thursday, January 24, 2019. At this meeting each school and student will be recognized by the Gwinnett County School Board. Additionally, winning students will receive an award from Peach State Federal Credit Union, as well as, a plaque presented by the Social Studies office to commemorate their winning entry.
