Principal's Message

Tansi! Hello Connaught Families!

It is hard to believe that November is here. Our first few months have gone by so quickly. We are so proud of how much our students are learning. We have a few sayings here at Connaught School. The first is "Everyday Matters". We truly believe in our students and we are committed to ensuring ALL students are successful while attending Connaught School. We believe that every minute of the day matters and we don't have one second to waste.

Secondly, we say that we are "growing our brains". We approach every day at Connaught School as an opportunity to learn great things. One of our school values is GRIT, which means that we want our staff and students to work hard and not give up; to persevere, and challenge themselves. We are so proud of our students and the GRIT they have shown so far this year. We will continue to challenge our students to "Reach Higher, Grow Stronger" every day!

We look forward to connecting with families this month to brag about our students and share all we have learned. We want our students to feel proud of themselves and share with their family the goals they have for the rest of the school year. Stay tuned for more information about Student-Led Conferences from November 15th-19th.

Here's to another great month at Connaught School!

Jen Kahl

Student Illness

A reminder to families, please check in with your child every morning before school to see if they are feeling unwell. If your child has even one symptom of illness, please do not send them to school. For any student who is feeling unwell, families will be contacted and asked to come and pick up their child. We recognize that this is an inconvenience for families, but we must be consistent in our policy. Students who are sent home are allowed to return to school after 48 hours symptom free.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call and speak to Mrs. Kahl, our Principal.

Rapid Test Kits

We have more rapid test kits that have arrived. If your family would like a kit, please contact us at the school and we will be happy to give you one.

I do want to clarify one point about the rapid tests. The rapid tests should only be used if the person has no symptoms of Covid. The rapid tests should not to be used if a person has symptoms, because the rapid test measures something different related to Covid illness, than an official PCR test does. If you or your child has any symptoms, you should contact 811 and go get a PCR test at a testing site. That will give you the most accurate results.

For symptoms of Covid, please refer to the picture above. Those are the symptoms we should be looking for.

Covid Communication

Going forward, any cases of Covid associated with a class of students, will be communicated to family's emails. If there is a case of Covid associated with the classroom, Mrs. Kahl will send your family the email from Public Health. In the letter, Public Health will tell families the dates of isolation.

Students who are deemed a close contact at school, will still be permitted to leave isolation to attend school only. They will have to stay in isolation in the evenings and weekends. They will not be permitted to participate in extra-curricular activities during the isolation period.

If a student is deemed a close contact of someone in their own home with Covid, they will be required to isolate. In this case, they will not be able to attend school and must stay home.

If you require further clarification, don't hesitate to call us at the school.

Lunch of the Month

Every year at Connaught School, we fundraise for end of year classroom trips or activities. Each month, one classroom will host a lunch of the month lunch that families can purchase for their child or children. The costs will vary from month to month. Please look for a note to come home for students to place an order. The order forms and money can be sent to school and submitted at the office. Please note, lunch cards will not be able to be used towards the lunch of the month. All money raised will go towards end of year class trips or activities.

The November lunch of the month will be hosted by our Grade 3 class and will be on November 25th. Watch for more information to come home soon!

Picture Retakes

Picture Retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th in the morning only (from 9:00-11:30). If your child needs photo retakes, please call the school to have your child added to the list. Retakes will not be taken of all students, just those families who request them. So please make sure you let us know.

Student-Led Conferences and Report Cards

November is the end of our first term of learning. At this time, students will take time to share their learning with their families. In the past, we have always had in person Student Led Conferences. However, this year, due to the increased cases of Covid, we have made a decision to have virtual conferences for this term. That means that the classroom teachers will reach out to families to set up a time to meet. Families can choose to meet virtually (through Zoom) or a phone call. Teachers will dedicate the week of November 15th-19th to connecting with all families in their class. Please watch for information coming home soon to indicate a time that is best for your family.

We look forward to connecting with families and celebrating student learning! We are so proud of everything our students are learning so far this year.

Dress for the Weather

Winter is on it's way! Please ensure your child is dressed warmly enough to play outside for recess each day. Thank you.

SeeSaw for Schools

When your child is away from school for a day or even a longer period of time, they are able to access their learning activities on SeeSaw. It is crucial for students and families to be connected to this online learning platform. Home learning codes have been sent home for students. If you did not receive a home learning code or if you need assistance connecting, please call us at the school and speak to your child's teacher and they will be happy to help you get set up.

When students are away from school they are expected to access their learning from home and complete the work that is posted. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.
