Integer Operations
By Juan Manuel and Sofia
Adding Integers
- When you have like signs you add the integers.
- When you have unlike signs you subtract and stay with the sign of the higher integer.
Examples.
-3 + -2 = -5 2 + 2 = 4
-5 + 10 = 5
4 + 6 = 10
Subtracting Integers
- When you have like signs you add the integers.
- When you have unlike signs you subtract and stay with the sign of the higher integer.
Examples.
5 - 3 = 2
2 - 3 = -1
-4 - 3 = -7
Multiplying Integers
- When you have like signs the answer stays positive and you multiply regularly.
- When you have unlike signs the answer is negative and you multiply regularly.
Examples.
5 x 4 = 20
-3 x 5 = -15
-2 x -4 = 6
Dividing Integers
- When you have like signs the answer stays positive and divide regularly.
- When you have unlike signs the answer is negative and divide regularly.
Examples.
20 ÷ 5 = 4
-15 ÷ 3 = -5
-18 ÷ -6 = 3
