Effective Grouping
A path to student mastery.
Why Grouping? Why now?
You have SO much data for your students and rather than letting that valuable information go to waste, let's use it effectively! Your evaluation tool (NCEES) states that you are "using data for short and long range planning" and "engaging students in the learning process". The easiest way to do that is through effective grouping. We also know that this is one of the best practices for reaching all students. This session is NOT tablet technology based. Rather, it is tailored to bringing best practices to fit your needs as a teacher-expert of your content area. Technology may or may not be a tool that will enhance that.
Be ready to use data to effectively group your students and leave with a better understanding of your next steps. See 'What to Bring' below!
In preparation for the upcoming PD session...
- Relevant student data (which could include, but is not limited to) -- GCS Interim Assessment results; formative assessment results from classroom and/or tablet data (i.e. Quick Polls); interest survey data; personality survey data; observational data; AIMS web data; etc.
- A writing utensil
- Your charged tablet and
- An open mind!
You will leave with:
- Concrete ideas and steps for implementing effective grouping.
- Additional resources to enhance your existing groups.
- A better understanding of the type of grouping most appropriate for you, your content area and your students.
