Message from Dr. Kimberly Jones-Goods, Principal!

Greetings from Sumner Elementary School! We are so thrilled to work with your family this year! Our Sumner staff is committed to supporting our students, families, and the community both during periods of remote learning and periods of face-to-face instruction. Attendance

During the period of remote learning, students will be marked present by 1) attending live lessons, 2) viewing the pre-recorded lessons, 3) participating in a student/teacher conference, 4) participating in discussions, or 5) completing work assignments. Students will be marked present on a remote learning day if they attend a live lesson and will be marked present for any missed live lessons by completing one of the listed activities within seven days.

Where to Get School Meals/Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

Sumner Elementary is again a lunch site for grab and go meals. Meals will be available for school age students Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at all GCS school sites. Families can visit any school to pick up the meals, which include breakfast and lunch, free of charge. Parents are still encouraged to fill out a meal benefits application at www.lunchapplication.com, so students are still able to receive free meals when the waivers expire at the end of December. Parents may reapply at any time during the year if their financial situation changes.

2020 Census

Would you mind giving a few minutes of your time to help our school get more federal funding? If you complete the 2020 Census, you’ll be doing just that. Go to 2020census.gov and complete the form online. Your census responses help determine our community’s federal funding for school lunches, special education, PreK services, and teacher training, as well as support for children’s healthcare, hospitals, housing, firefighters and unemployment assistance. The 2020 Census also determines how many seats our state and region have in Congress. Let’s make sure Guilford County counts, and go to 2020census.gov!

Students Receiving Special Education Services

Parents who need to request Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings or schedule time for related services appointments (like occupational therapy and physical therapy) that cannot be provided remotely should contact Sumner Elementary School; we will direct you to the appropriate EC case manager.

Technology and Hotspots

GCS will send out 125 smart buses with internet access while students are participating in remote learning. Buses will be located at various sites throughout Greensboro and High Point. Wireless internet access is available in several school parking lots. The list of the 24 schools with outdoor internet can be found at https://www.gcsnc.com/Page/64905

Office Business

In order to ensure physical distancing and to assist you as efficiently as possible, please call 336-316-5888 to set an appointment should you need to conduct office business. Phones will be answered Mondays through Fridays 8 am until 4 pm.

There is no need to complete this screener at this time, this is just so you know the questions that will be asked of all students and families.
