USD116 BOE Update: March 8, 2022

Commendation/Recognitions
Administrative Reports
10.1 Equity Task Force Auditor Recommendation
Dr. Caffey gave a brief overview of the two firms, Dr. Dubiel and Dr. Lewis, that were brought to the Board at previous meetings.
During the Monday, March 8, the Equity Task Force discussed both firms and voted on who they would recommend for the Equity Audit. The vote taken was overwhelmingly in favor of Dr. Dubiel conducting the audit. (Dr. Caffey abstained from voting since he has been the primary contact with the firms).
After much discussion, the Board deferred this decision to another date. They want to bring both Dr. Dubiel and Dr. Lewis back for further discussion.
10.2 Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center Facility Discussion
Below are several scenarios that the Park District put together for discussion purposes. All options maintain full access to the facility for USD swim team practices and meets.
Option 1: Maintain the current schedule of joint facility use with no adjustments.
Option 2: Empty the pool on Memorial Day weekend and refill ahead of August swim team
practices. Public programming would resume after Labor Day. The facility would also close for
public swim and UPD programming on Sundays for the remainder of the year.
Option 3: Closed to public June-Aug. and on Sundays. For the remainder of the year, only physical education classes, UPD programming, and lap swim would be offered. No public open swim.
Option 4: Closed to the public June-Aug and on Sundays. For the remainder of the year, only UPD programming and lap swim would be offered. No public open swim or physical education
classes.
Option 5: School District would take on full operations of the facility for District use.
No public component.
The park district board is also discussing these options. Depending on what the Urbana Park District brings forth, the USD Board was in favor of option 2; closing the pool from June-Aug. and on Sundays. This would allow us to continue PE and maintain public programming and lap swim, which continues to provide a pipeline for our secondary swim and dive teams. The Board values the continued partnership with the Park District and we appreciate the opportunity to expose our youth to aquatics in a safe environment. This would be a one year extension of the agreement.
10.3 Board of Education Sub-District Boundary Discussion
The 2020 Census data indicates that School Board Member Districts have grown disproportionately over the past decade, thereby requiring redistricting in 2021 to achieve greater equality between Districts.
The deadline for the public to submit a map was March 1.
We will make the two Board approved maps available for public review and comment the week of March 21 on the USD Redistricting web page.
The Board will vote on the final map at the April 19 BOE meeting.
Action Items
12.3 Approval of Equity Audit Contract No motion, item dropped.
