Upcoming Washington State Assessments
In Washington, we utilize the Smarter Balance Assessments (SBA) for our state-mandated testing. For our fifth graders, these exams will begin April with their state science assessment scheduled for Thursday, April 28th. This exam will begin a month of testing with third, fourth and fifth graders taking part in one exam per week for a period of four weeks.
Below is our expected schedule for this year's SBA exams. Parents/families of upper graders will receive additional information across the coming weeks. For additional SBA information, please see our district's information webpage.
SBA Testing: Student Headphones
As you may know, we utilize Chromebook devices for the SBA exams. As we prepare for the coming testing season, one area of preparation includes ensuring that our students have all of the proper technology and tools. One resource that all of our Eagles will need are headphones. If your child has a preferred, comfortable set of headphones, they may use these during the state exams. In early April, we will send home a quick survey to determine which students plan to use their own headphones for these exams. Headphones only need to have an audio plug (pictured below) as these cannot connect via Bluetooth, USB, or a different connection.
SBA Scores via the Home Access Center
Please know that individual student SBA scores will be available via our district's Home Access Center (HAC). As these are state-level assessments, scores are not immediately available and may take several days/weeks to process before posting. Please access the below link for HAC instructions and additional information pertaining to how to log in and navigate this at-home resource.
Thank You Volunteers!
Also, Public Schools Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 18-22. Thank you to everyone who has helped this year at Monroe. We look forward to having even more parents, guardians, and community members join our Monroe family!
Additionally, we would love to welcome volunteers that are needed for several year-end events in May and June (including Field Day!). If interested, please apply above and look for additional event information later this month.
April Celebrations!
With April comes several wonderful opportunities to learn and celebrate as a school! First, April is National Arab American Heritage Month. This month specifically celebrates Arab American heritage and culture and pays tribute to the contributions of Arab Americans and Arabic-speaking Americans.
Additionally, April is National School Volunteer Month and an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful school volunteers. More specifically, Public Schools Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 18-22. We look forward to celebrating each member of our Monroe community who has been able to volunteer this year.
Finally, April is School Library Month and provides us with a valued opportunity to show our appreciation to our amazing Monroe Librarian, Mrs. Kerry Qualey, and our wonder-filled Monroe Library that she has curated.
Please join us in celebrating each of these wonderful opportunities (and people) across the month of April!
EPS Hotspot Technology Refresh
Our Everett Public Schools Technology Department is in the process of changing out older internet hotspots and providing newer versions for our students/families who qualify. As part of this effort, qualifying students/families, who were previously provided a hotspot, will be able to swap out their old device for a new hotspot. If you have an old and/or disabled hotspot, please bring this device back to our school. A new hotspot will be provided that should serve your child/children well in their learning needs.
EPS April Newsletter
Each month, our Everett Public Schools sends a newsletter to all of our families with information pertaining to all of our schools/programs. The April version of our district's newsletter is attached below for your consideration. In this month’s newsletter, you will find updates on each of the below topics.
- The EPS 2022/2023 District Calendar
- Kindergarten Registration Information
- Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 18 - 22)
- EPS's New APP
