50th day of school
It’s time to roll up those pants & pull out those poodle skirts. We’re celebrating the 50th Day of school, 1950’s style! To add to the fun, I am asking students to “dress the part” on the 50th day of school instead of wearing the standard uniform.
Some ideas include: rolled up jeans, ponytails, scarves, slicked back hair, poodle skirts, leather jackets and Converse-style shoes. I encourage you not to buy anything for this special day. If you need something, could you be resourceful and ask a neighbor or a friend if they have an item you need? I shared this newsletter with last year's Primer parents so they can offer some advice and resources to you, if needed.
Our 50th Day of School will be on Friday, November 7. Prior to this special day, students will be learning about life in the 1950s. Students will also complete an project for homework focused around the number 50. This assignment will be sent home after Fall Break.
Learning
If I am not learning, I become stagnat. I want my students to be lifelong leaners so I need to practice what I preach.
I am excited to inform you that ESD is bringing from the Forum the director of Rio Beni Health Foundation, Joselo Hurtado. Joselo will come to ESD and be a guest speaker in our classroom to help with our Challenge 20/20 program on biodiversity. Joselo works in the Amazon regions of Bolivia. You can read more about him here.
After Fall Break, I am co-presenting with Martha Bowden, LS computer specialist at the Educational Research Bureau (ERB) conference in Boston. ERBs are the assessment that most independent schools use to assess students starting in second grade through middle school. In addition to these assessments, the conference will focus on the spirit of learning. You can see the details here.
